The K-9 that won't fire up

I've spend the last two days diagnosing the reason the K-9 engine suddenly stopped running on the way home last week.

I'm soliciting some suggestions from those of you how work on your own bikes. Here are some facts;

(1) There is a Wire Plus installed. All the plugs an connection are good. Everything electrical works, including the started motor. The engine turns over fine.
(2) The ignition module is stock. Red power light on the module comes on and front/rear cylinder lights flicker when the started button is pushed.

Here's the mystery...this morning I had spark when I tested the plugs. Put the plugs back in and the engine fires up and dies right away. That's when I clean the carb. After the carb clean, it won't start and I have no spark.

When it's not got spark at the plugs, while turning the motor over is the light on the ignition module blinking? Motor spinning situation no fire but light blinking or no?

My guess is it is not getting fuel since you do have a spark (I am assuming it has a good consistent series of sparks when turning over).

The power light on the module does come on an the cyclinder lights flicker but I didn't check it at the exact same time as the spark. I know what your thinking. This wil confirm if the module is having an intermitent problem.

There is plenty of fuel and the carb is clean.

Good idea, I will check to see if I'm getting 12V at the coil.

I'll check it out this afternoon and let you know what I find.

The coil is getting 12v and I get no spark as the ignition module indicates it has power and the front and rear trip lights signal.

That seems to point to a bad coil.

The Thunderheart ignition kit arrived. Hopefully that gets me back on the road.

Yes it does Mikie or at least mine did when I got the adjustable ignition timing Kit.

If new coil and ignition module don't fire it up you will need to check or replace your Crank Sensor located in front of the motor, it may not be fully plugged in. Hope it works for you.

PS Did you happen to check continuity of the blue and yellow wires between the ignition module and the coil?

I did check the continuity of the two signal wires from the ignition module to the coil. They are closed. Both spark plugs are dead.

Carlos,
I don't suspect the crank sensor since the ignition module is able to send signals to both front and rear cylinder indication lights. I assume the module would not be able to flicker these lights without some knowledge of the engines timinig.

In the one thousand years of riding and of the millions of motorcycles, cars and boats I've owned, I have never had a coil or crank sensor fail. I'm going to check the wires one more time.

The ThunderHeart ASM5012 looks like BDM OEM parts. Its the entire ignition system less the crank sensor. My K-9 has V & H big radius pipes with no baffles (came that way). I think a bit more timing advance will take advantage of all the niose it makes.
