Summer 2007 I replace my first rear tire after purchasing my k9 one year earlier. I take it on a 100 mile trip to Rolla, MO to spend a weekend with my family. On the way back to St. Louis, 10 miles from home, I picked up a screw or something on 270->page exit ramp. I managed to strong arm it to the shoulder after coming out of the turn. A can of fix a flat got me the remaining 10 miles home, just barely. I gotta give the bike credit, that thing was going flat while I was in the middle of a cork screw turn because as soon as I came out of the turn she was all sorts of sluggish, pushing hard to the left. It could have been much worse.
Ever since then I carry a tire plug kit in my tbag or tool roll. They are cheap, and will get you home.
One note in support of Gateway big dog in St. Louis. They never found any foreign object in the tire when I got it to the dealer. There was a small tear in the middle of the tread. who knows what happened. I had only 300 miles on a brand new tire. Tim gave me half off a brand new Avon venom. They could have said tough luck dude, but they could tell I was not happy with the tire. Looking back, they really went above and beyond. I've always been treated right at Gateway Big Dog, and those guys always remember your name.
