The Dreaded Flat!

Well it had to happen sooner or later. I knew when I got this ride that I would be fucked if I got a flat. Spoke wheels are nice but tubes suck. Riding down county road 50 in western ny and sure as shit a piece of wire went right through my rear tire. Made a hell of a racket and scared the crap out of my wife as it wiped around till I was able to stop. Called Harley and they had a flat bed to me within an hour. What was truly amazing was the amount of vehicles that went by without stopping to offer assistance. At least 10 of which were motorcycles. Guess this is a different world than the one I was brought up in. Alls well that ends well though. I had it dropped at the hd dealer about 75 miles from my home and will have them check my cruise control as I am still having problems with that. Called my son and had him pick us up and I'm home havin a beer. Guess I'll be heatin up the old plastic when I pick it up from the stealer.:bang:
The pisser is that I have a new tire in the garage but still had 3/32 left on this one.

glad you were Ok...
Thanks man. Never any danger. Just a pain in the ass.
Gives me a reason to look at new models when I pick it up with them cast wheels.
Plugs and a small 12 volt compressor and I would have been good to go.:2thumbs:

Glad to hear you and the wifey are ok. I'm sure it made some kind of a racket. I'm on my third tire now and I'm hoping the flat spell is done for a while...:D

Been there and done that myself with my wife around 30 years ago, except it was around 10p.m. on a seldom traveled road. I was lucky and the first car that came by was a old man in a Cadillac who stopped and asked if we needed a ride since the nearest house with a phone was over 4 miles away. Glad you and the wife are OK Don, all things considered, you were lucky too. These days we have cell phones which give a little peace of mind, although I still tend to head for roads that frequently have no cell service.

Glad you're ok, bro. Like so many others, been there done that too. SUCKS!!! Currently runnin on plug that I put in just 800 miles in on a new 300 rear. Goddamn things are so expensive, couldn't bring myself to plunk down the bucks for another new one without at least first tryin the plug. And you know what...? Couple thousand miles later and it's still holdin! (Although: Yea, thou I walk thru the valley of the shadow of death.... :loony: )

Glad you're ok!! It's amazing how much "junk" is on the road , and it's a miracle we don't have more flat tires from it! :bang:

Do those "instant flat tire fixes in a can" work on our fat tires?? Anybody tried them and if so..do they get you down the road a few miles at least?
Just wondering whether it's worth putting a couple in the back seat bag for longer trips.

Also glad your ok.. NOt making excuses for the people who did not stop ,but sometimes I think with the advent of cell phones people ASSUME you have help on the way ? I had a little fun This Sunday not too far from the city when while traveling on the chopper at 10:45am I came up on what looked like a broke down bike on the side of the road ...I slowed to get a look and low a behold it was a woman .. and easy on the eyes i might add :) so as i'm coming to a stop I ask if all is alright ..she answers she thinks its out of gas and that her husband was in front of her on his bike and kept going ..well we exchanged names and such and I quickly found out her petcock was turned half way off ...I turned it to reserve and had it running in pretty fast ..we talked for another five mins when I heard him coming back ...he had to run past us in the other lane and make a u turn ...when he shows up I get like 4 or five thank you SIR 's and we shake hands and I'm on the way ..I was tempted to give him a lecture on keeping his wife in view but thought why rub salt ...and just continued on ...I think he will remember and hopefully return the favor to some other broke down biker or at least keep his nice looking woman in sight ...Da DAA My job is done hear :whoop::roll: off to the next adventure ....With a mighty splash scubaman rides off into the morning sun ready at a moments notice to help the fair sex !!!roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

That would be cool.:2thumbs:
I might see him in Carlisle the end of the month. Will be a last minute decision but will probably go. Only about 300 miles for me so I should make it by lunch!
