The dreaded '05 clutch basket

After reading Jake's "how to" for the Bandit clutch and seeing his and others pics of a completely broken clutch basket, I too have become the next victom.:bang: I heard noise in the primary when I would take off, but it would clear up once running. Still, there was no doubt something was wrong. The clutch basket had competely broken. I see where some have gone with the Bandit. Has anyone gone back with Baker? Have you had any issues with it or with the Bandit? I only need the basket. Does Bandit sell just that part and should I go with a completely new clutch? Thanks for your feedback. I need to get a part coming to me soon and may as well get the best bang for my buck. :whoop:

all the factory did under warranty was to replace the basket with the updated design. have seen the new ones occasionally on ebay

I talked to Rubwhore and he recommeded bailing wire, duct tape and the new, improved Baker clutch basket, 3054A-DSSC. I'll give that a shot. Baker realizes the problems with the 3053-DSSC and have "beefed" up the replacements. Didn't see any on Ebay but got one from Baker on its way.

Thanks Bobby, but I've got the new Baker on the way. $266 worth. Not sure I could have waited a couple of weeks for you to get your Bandit anyway. It's time to ride! We only have 11.75 months of riding weather down here and you got to get it while the gettins good. Oh! That 0.25 month is when the temps don't get over 50 degrees all day. Way to frigid for riding. Thanks again Bobby. I do appreciate the offer. By the way, why are you changing to the Bandit? Did you have any problems with your new Baker?

Its the carrier that breaks, you can probably find someone on here with one that has upgrated to the bandit.A new carrier is about 75 bucks, I got the hole clutch set up from Carlos for free .BEAT THAT. Just kidding good luck. It's the 05's and early 06's that have the weak carriers.

I have had clutch slipping problems with my 117 but the upgraded carrier from baker seems to be working fine....That said im swaping all of it out for the bandit bruser unit.

Cool. Good to know that there are no reported issues with the new Baker basket. Do you just like the sound of "Bandit Bruiser" or is there some real advantages to that? It's all behind the primary cover, so nothing to "bling" about. I read where you'll have to do some slight modifications on the inside of your primary cover to get the thicker Bandit clutch pack to fit properly. The Baker is basically the same set up, but with a better made basket. That's all I'm looking for. Never had any other clutch issues.

Well the main diff is in the way the clutch holds...The baker unit uses a single diaphragam spring clutch with either 9 or 12 clutches depending on the year of the bike.
The bandit uses 4 coil springs that can be changed out or shimmed to aid in holding power with 14 clutches.

The clutch basket that baker used was a joke and broke quite often (ask me how I know  ). The upgraded one seems to be better, but I wonder if it will break given time due to the fact it still is a cast part with openings.
The bandit unit is a solid machined billet part.
