Looking forward to retirement
There is a recall notice on the Votage Regulator for Big Dogs. You can find the exact recall on the internet from the .gov section. I think it's recall.gov or something. Mine also went out and there is, in fact, a recall on them. There is a number stamped on the VR and if it matches what is on the recall, you get it replaced.
Good luck!!
Ya, call bigdog for the warranty:roll::roll:

According to the manual there should only be to wires on the - terminal. I have 3 (starter, horn and the EHC ground). Ive checked the other earths and am running out of options.

The weird thing is, it starts fine and everything works except the R/F turn flasher doesnt flash.
Mine is 08 K9 and there's 4 wires on the neg side. Maybe someone with a newer Mastiff will chime in....

Hi erldwg. Thanks for the info. Would it be possible for you to have a look and see what those 4 wires lead to on your bike? I think both the mastiff and K9 are wired pretty much the same. I now have 4 on my - post because I added my tender connector.

I have the Starter, horn and EHC ground. Now the tender as well.

I just want to tell you that you are not alone. Was 60 in NJ today so I put 100 miles on the bike. About 20 miles from home at a red light I look down and it looked like someone set off a smoke bomb. I remembered your post so I just rode it home. Pulled the regulator off and there is hole burned into the mounting side. I will call cycle electric in the morning and get a CE-320. I have 11100 miles on the bike and I think this will be the year of the 08 regulators. The strange thing is the breaker never tripped. I will replace with a fuse ASAP.

Mike. Glad you made it home ok!! When you call them. Make sure you clarify which VR you need. They have 2 CE-320. One is for bike with batteries that get alot of air and can cool. I have a Mastiff and my battery is pretty much enclosed and surrounded by EHC and 5 million wires. So I needed the CE-320L. The "L" charges at a slightly lower voltage and wont heat up your battery.

You cant order directly from them (license thing), so they gave me Doug Ingrams (Ingrams Panhead Specialist 513-524-3105) and I had it 4 days later, sent straight from the factory. They have a 2yr warrantee on it with a warrantee turn around of 2-3 days. They stand behind their product and said "It just shouldnt happen". Best of all they are US Made!!

Picked up the cycle electric VR after I found out mine was bad. Funny I was asking about them before it happened. Damn service manual doesn't have pics of connection location for removal... Not to mention they didn't even put the eye on the wire. I swear one needs to be an electrician to work on these things!

yeah, they don't put the eyelet on the wire because you have to run the wire along the bottom of your frame up to your battery...

Sure, I get that. Still can't find the stupid connection with all the other wires bunched in there I keep loosing during trace. Don't even see the fuse.

It happened to me the first week I got the bike! Put a new cycle electric VR on it and it burnt up also with in a couple days. Come to fnd out it was the stator burning them up! Put a new stator and VR and been rolling ever since!! So I spent about $500 on repairs before I rode 50 miles... That sucks!!!

That sux bro. Yeah we checked the stator 1st since it would be the most involved and expensive and it cleared the tests. Just got the VR off. Good god, SO many wire ties...

I was actually one of those that caught fire several years ago. I was in town, but didn't make it home. My fire was at least 12" high when I pulled over. I just finished filling up with fuel and just knew the whole damn thing was going to go up. I took my shirt off and beat the fire out and quickly disconnected the battery. This is when I lived in Orlando and went to every bike week and biketoberfest and got to know showdog who drove BDM big rig to the events. Lucky for me bike week was a week away. I contacted Showdog and he got me in with Ohmster at Carl's speed shop. I trailered it over and they helped me unload it and Ohmster went to work like a mad man. They fixed everything gave me a new battery and send me on my way. I always said Big Dog did the right thing most all the time when they were around. Bike wasn't in warranty but there had been a VR recall. Good luck.

Got the new VR in the same day. Dog started no problem all day, slept over someones house with no trickle charger and she started right up all day. Back in business!
