It's actually a Series 60 Detroit Diesel. Detroit Diesel was an offshoot of GM a long time ago making engines for big trucks. The other option was Cummins, or Caterpillar engines.

That is NOT a gm motor! It is a Detroit Diesel, Series 60. I have the same engine in my 2000 Volvo VNL 610, which is used only to pull my horse trailer. Considered by some to be the best truck engine available. 1650 ft. lb. of torque.

Thanks I work @ Detroit Diesel and have built many series 60's in my 20 yrs. And Reaper is correct the company was originally GM Diesel (way back) then changed the name to Detroit then sold the company to Roger Penske who sold it to Daimler Chrysler and when the split happened Diamler kept us because of our profitability thats all

This was my last one and very proud of it but it is no where near the BDM truck, at least not in looks. I had a V-8 Cat, 525 with a 6x4 gear box. Ran like the wind. So sorry to here about this. Kind of like the very end to a great era!
