Wow, 20 posts in 12 hours welcoming me to the Big Dog community! Thats pretty impressive!

Can you guys clear up what this is and what its purpose is? From my reading on here, I assumed it was a crankcase breather, but the previous owner told me it is a safety valve? Was this stock on an 06 Mastiff, or added on? I noticed some clear liquid foaming out of the screen after I let it run with the choke slightly on for a about 5 mins the other day.

I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death, but there seemed to be some contradiction from what I read.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts, and thanks in advance..... Damn, I need to clean those pipes :(

Choke

Hmm... then wth is this lever in the bottom left of the pic that appears to be functioning as a choke?

You will find a million posts on here about that "enrichener". As opposed to a choke that cuts of air this enrichener dumps raw fuel down the throat and will foul out your motor quicker than you would ever wish or think.

You should never use it if you don't need to and if you do then only to get it started then use the throttle to keep it running. It's just a learning thing. Once you figure out how to start it properly then you should never have to use that thing.

As for the puke can. I had that same one on my old 03 Mastiff. That line was origanally routed to the back of your air cleaner but someone installed that can and now you are stuck with cleaning out the puke can everynow and again or it will just spray out the top filter and make a mess of your transmission.

Don't be opening the throttle when you are starting the bike either. Not good for the motor.

Happy Holidays

Can I just get rid of the "puke can" and route the line back into the air cleaner? I see where they put a plug on the line. Is there an advantage to having the can? I wouldn't think its necessary unless there is signifcant blowby, and being an 06 with 8k miles I would hope theres not much at all?

Also, I noticed my fuel tank is pretty loose. I can rock it back and forth, and it really starts to shake as RPM's increase. Is this Normal?

I'd keep it personally (puke can) just check it often to get an idea how often it needs changed, not hurting anything. And I'd check all the bolts on the tank to make sure there secure, that is not normal. You also might want to get a manual from Nelson at Wicked Bastard Cycles, he's a forum member and supporting business.

Oh and just say NO to the enricher!

That running for 5 MIN with the enrichner on is probably what is wrong with your plugs and the puke coming out. Push that devil back down as soon as the motor fires.

Enrichner
A fuel plunger which is used in a carburetor in place of a choke . By activating the plunger more gas is permitted into the intake area to enrichen the fuel-air mixture for easier starting.

I just twist the throttle half way twice and the bike starts right up. never use the enricher / choke. It will really foul the plugs.
