THANK YOU Big Dog Motorcycles, LLC

I recently purchased a pre owned 2005 chopper (september of 2008). I was curious if any work had been done on it since it was new. I emailed the factory and they said the bike serial number shows it has 4 or 5 warranty recalls and / or service bulletins outstanding on the bike. ( the guy that had it prior to me kept it in his living room and obviously did not drive it much since it only had 1700 miles on it.)

I made an appointment last week and took it over to my local BDM dealer. I asked them to do the recall work and advise if you can tell if I have a problem with my clutch. Because, I just adjusted it per the service manual and still have some vehicle creep; specifically, difficulty when cold after initial start up and going from neutral to first gear. bike shifts fine when warmed up. Really I didn't think it was a big deal . I've been driving it.

Please keep in mind the bike is an 05 and out of warranty

Two days later the dealer says all recall stuff is done but there is alot of problems with the clutch. Dealer says he's been on the phone with the factory and they have agreed to approve a bunch of clutch repairs FREE OF CHARGE. Known issues with clutches on 2005 models.

Here is the list of things they did for me free of charge and against their warranty ;

  1. -headlight harness repir kit
    -regulator kit
    -electrical side cover install kit
    -rear fender strut bolt kit
    -replace clutch push rod ( diameter issue)
    -install heavy clutch spring
    -install primary vent
    -install primary chain tensioner shoe clip
    -install redesigned transmission counter shaft washer ( including all new -sealing o-rings, primary drive oil, and gear oil)
    -install new primary chain sproket shim

My dealer definetly went the extra yard fro me.

THANK YOU ;

Sweet indeed! Once I decided to buy a "custom bike" one of the main reasons I bought a BDM was hearing stories like this one on their customer service. There sure are a lot of other bike manufacturers who won't and don't stand behind their product.

That is a great story especially during these times.
Companies who don't plan on being around don't care much about customer service.
This says a lot about BDM and what they think the future holds for them.

Yeah, BDM is great. Took my 05 Ridgeback in for some fluids to Jim Nasi Customs here in Phoenix and get a call that I had some outstanding issues that had not been fixed. Next thing I know is all the parts are in so I drop her off and it all gets fixed free of charge. My warranty was up in early 2006.

I think most of these were SB's but none the less.

Great looking paint job on that chopper.

I believe that most of the grief we experience is with the local dealers that don't give good customer service. BDM LLC has been great to work with. I rode to the Tornado Rally in 2006 from Denver. After a rest stop about 50 miles from Wichita, my bike wouldn't re-start, quick troubleshooting told me it was the starter. I pop started the bike rode right to the Big Dog factory, talked to a service guy and he took my name, cell phone number and told me to get some lunch while they put a new starter on it. I came back, picked up the bike with the new starter installed, no questions, no charge it was just done! The bike was under warranty still but the quick turn around and no questions asked was great.

Sometimes going to my local dealer for help makes me feel like I'm the problem. Maybe I am, but I haven't been to the dealer in two years.
