TH ASM 5012 question

I just installed the thunderheart ASM 5012 on my 07 Mastiff. My question is when I adjust the timming on it will I also have to adjust my carburator. I'm just curiuos because if it going to increase my performance my motor will want to drink more fuel or does it just adjust the way my motor will use fuel. My motor has had some performance upgrades, like 11 to 1 compression, heads work on, carb rebuilt & jeted, 600 cam. Thanks for the info.

The module has 6 pre-set timing curves and 2 pre-set rev limits. These are set using just a very small screw driver or blade. You can use a computer and set your on tiiming curves if you have the paitence and a dyno to check your results. Wiht the amount of curve it adds you most likely will not have to adjust your jetting but that is something you will have to check with the spark plugs unless you put it on a dyno with a sniffer to measure your mixture and change settings for best results.

:whoop:Just installed mine right outta the box set it to#4 which I've been told is 34% of timing and have driven it a couple hundred miles this weekend no problem that I've noticed at all!

I set mine to 4 also, but haven't had a chance to some miles on it. Do you think #5 will be to much. I plan to try and some higher octane fuel in it if use the 5 setting. I'm going to have to buy some racing fuel to blend with the 91 octane straight unleaded( no 10% ethinol) which is the highest in my area. If any anyone happens to know of way to get a good consistante 94 octane blend ratio please let me know. Thanks for all the help.

With your compression being 11-1 you may be fine where you are at position # 4, rev limiter at 5984. I personally have mine sat at Position "E" which is the same as # 6 but with the rev limiter at 6240. My compression is at 10.5 -1, run the wood 650, head work with the bigger valves on so on. Dont be scared to turn it up, just listen for that detonation if non you should be OK. I also Run 32 / 78 jets with two thunder jets :D. No detonation here.

Since 1978 is the VOES, or cars with Vac Adv hose/mechanical advance preset

Someone correct me if I am wrong. There is this thing called, 'base timing.' If you have an intake vacuum switch, you disable it. This throws the ECU into a safe mode, i.e., base timing.

To install the box, any unit, the ignition is set to factory advance. Once those degrees or using the timing marks on the crank are found, you shoot the light, dial in the base timing. Next, reinstall the sensors/VOES kind of vacuum unit, you recheck advance. This says:

1. The box is good = It can send a code i.e., send itself to 'backup.' The unit is working.
2. Install the vacuum sensor back on = The sensor is good, the timing light follows the curve.
3. The system is functioning = Every part in that 'loop' is a good known part, meaning, Huston, we have no problems, the chitcan has landed. Proceed to tune from there.
4. We need to find base, so maps can fly the same pattern, meaning, starts at the landing pad... Now, All systems go> [Tuning].

:2thumbs: Dis is where the tire shoot outs, the dyno runs, the fastest Dog is going to put yours on the trailer. :whoop: There is only one winner on the dyno. Send your pile down the road = Don't show up unless you are 'based.' :roll:
