There must be truth in the saying 30 thousand dollars and a fancy bike sure don't make ya biker ...cause there are some crying baby's riding around on the FINEST production customs ever made ....And that is sad! The economy is what brought Big Dog to its knees ... Miami Vice I heard there was a opening over at the Sponge Bob Forum you should check it out:eek: No one hear really wants to hear your whining .. SELL the dog to someone who will love it and care for it ..buy your Road King and blend in ... you don't deserve the Dog these bikes were never intended for posers ..just real Bikers !

When I bought my BD the warranty was not the first thing on my mind. It was love at first site and I never looked back. I am going to keep my dog forever and ride the hell out of it. I think there is one point most are missing. They are keeping the parts business going. What would it take in a better economy to hire a few assemblers and all of a sudden you are a bike company again. Hang in there, they will build bikes again.

I hope they do, really I do, but I was told by a dealer they had no intentions of opening back up in the future. It is kinda like the plant I worked at for 23 years coming back from Mexico, Brazil, and whatever the heck they sent the products we made in the USA. After 3 years now, I have finally come to the realization, they ain't coming back.

I've stayed silent on this whole BDM closing down thing so far but for fucks sake. I live in England where Big Dogs are not sold, BDM couldn't have been more unhelpful to me if they tried so I personally couldn't care less that they've gone under (I do feel for the employees though), I've had problem after problem after problem with my bike but I'm still here and the bike is still on the road and actually running fine at the moment. If I can manage then anyone can. It's a bike at the end of the day and anything can be fixed, warranty or not, BDM or not. Stop fucking crying about it and get on with it. Anyone who buys a bike like this at the mercy of a warranty hasn't really thought it through have they. Sell it, move on, have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up
Great post. Lee !!

Once again they sort of took care of me...Once I hassled them...It wasnt easy...I know everyone here think my threads are stupid, but nobody here would pay Top Dollar for anything else without a warranty if they can afford it...
I dont think your threads are stupid. I dont understand your logic though. Top Dollar..? Sounded to me like you bought your bike at or near cost..? I'd say you got a smoking deal on "new" bike. Reality is, if BDM wasnt hurting, you would never have got the deal you got. Also, you were vigilant enough to get everything taken care of BEFORE they closed the doors..... In the words of Charlie Sheen... WINNING :D

If Harley made something even remotely compatible to a Big Dog then I'd consider, but they're not even in the same game. Their designs are old and tired.

Here's what I want....I want the banks to force Sheldon to buy back all the bikes under Warranty...And he pays what the owner paid...Fair?:whoop:
Wow Ive been sort of defending you up to this point but there's no defending that statement. Really? The bank owns the company now and is gonna take it in the ass bad I'm sure. They'll liquidate BDM and get what they can and I'm sure be way short in the long run. And you want the banks to buy your scoot back from you. It doesn't work that way friend.

I understand your warranty concerns and your feeling of being cheated but don't for a minute think Harley is any different. Ask the guys that bought Harleys flag ship CVO bikes with the 110. That engine had more problems than you could ever imagine and for all the trouble and months in the shop what they gave you was a first edition book on the motor company. If there was any way out of paying for repair they took it.
So my point is take care of your bike and it will take care of you. You bought it because it is different and you wanted something that was a step above the rest. You got that your not just one of the sheep riding the same old shit as every other would be biker.

Ok,

I bought a Big Dog last Sep...If I would have known Big Dog was shutting down and my warranty would be worth "Fools Gold", I would have bought me a Nice Harley....Yeah, Yeah, nobody forced me to buy my Dog and I accept my decision, but BDM should have changed years ago when they laid off the first employee...150 million in one year? I would have invested half into some sort of stock that would have ensured Big Dog could weather the storm...It would be interesting to see their Financial Statements...Sorry fellas, I love the Dog, but the future is Dim for our Dogs....Parts are already "Scrace" and nobody wants to touch them...Yes, people drool over them because they are attractive, but during this economy the re-sale value is "Dismal"....I seen a $40k Big dog go for 13K....Owner cried...I didnt start this thread to pick a fight, only to allow those who have questioned their purchase vent...
Well, the truth is you have nobody to blame but yourself. You made a financial commitment without doing your due diligence into the viability of the company you were purchasing product from.

What research did you do on the health of BDM? What calculations did you do on the depreciation curve of a luxury item like a $30k-$40k bike?

Your premise asserts that part of your rationale was that this was some sort of investment. If that's the case, you failed yourself miserably.

Any purchase, of any kind, of a luxury item in the middle of a recession, at full or even close to retail or MSRP is plain ignorance.

There is nothing wrong with your bike. The only thing wrong was your rationale in your purchase decision.

Your expectations were unrealistic. The warning signs have been there all along. All you had to do was look at the real estate valuations, rate of foreclosures, credit tightening, federal bailouts, consumer price increasing,

....dang man...GM went bankrupt! and you did see this coming for BDM?

C'mon man....

I have always loved the Big Dogs since I saw them and the opportunity was there so I sold what I had and jumped on one...Well, no regrets
From Miami's intro.

Miamivice, BDM is done and there is nothing anyone can do about it, so what can this site do to help you return to a positive outlook short of buying you "opportunity" back?

Unfortunately, values are going to plummet just like they did with Ironhorse, and dealers will likely have Big Dogs sitting on the floor for years to come because they can't cut deals at a loss, just like Ironhorse. Proprietary parts will get harder and harder to come by. Coleman did what any intelligent businessman would do, he held his cards close until the last second. I don't get all this mushy shit about his dream and everything else. Once BD started turning a profit it became a business and he ran it as such. If you put a wire plus in the bike or rewire it with a Harley type harness, you will have eliminated 90% of your headaches. If you were planning on selling your bike, go ahead and sell it. If you're in a panic thinking you're screwed without a warranty, don't fret. Very few dealerships know how to fix these bikes anyway, so you really haven't lost anything. Get your tools and start fixing it yourself. If you wanna go nuts then cut the transmission mount off, have a regular RSD mount welded on, and buy a normal RSD 6 spd and primary. What you sell your BD primary and trans for will pay for most of it. Then you'll have a bike that you can always get parts for and anyone can work on.

I know of a dealer that is going to offer all their Big Dog's in stock with a 5 year aftermarket in house warranty. If other dealers used their head they could come up with something that would entice someone to buy as well.

I won't tell any more details of who/how b/c it's not my place to, but those bikes on the floors WILL move...and they're sure as hell going to do it smarter than AIH who GAVE their bikes left in stock away to vendors that owed them money to make the debt right again.

Face it, we need dealers for support, but they are salesmen, and a salesman will do whatever is necessary to sell. They're good people and all, but it's just what they do :)
