TRUE COLORS COLLISION
all i am implying is regardless i just dont see it being worth 350,now on the other hand beings i work 10 hours a day and my day off is sunday,i would much rather spend it riding than servicing my bike so in that case it makes it worthwhile ,i just felt like bitchin when i started this thread.....

The 5K service requres them to do about 30 diferant checks and adjustment like adjusting the clutch, primary ETC.. Would you take a Ferrari to Jiffy Lube????:job:

jimizee,

Can understand the frustration and venting, that all said if they did do all the proper service, the price is not bad between the parts and labor.

Of course if you want to be really shocked, I understand that a Enzo Ferrari is about 10K to get serviced(oil, filter and basic adjustment and inspections), hell the brake pad themselves are like 6k and the rotors like 24K.

Do it yourself! IF you're not sure... get to know your fellow rider that does. Buy that man beer & pizza and see if he'll help you do it.

jimi, i plan on taking my k-9 back to black dog for the 5k soon. they treated me right so far and i have some clutch concerns which might be warranty items. it is the warranty concerns that spook me. if they do the service right, i don't mind paying for it. also, they see these bikes every day and might spot something which is starting to fail or be a problem. "you can never beat a man at his trade"--(somebody important said that)
anyhow, steve, what made your dog sick the other week on the way to rolling thunder? no hijack intended but would be interested to know, chuck

re

I've been doing my own service for awhile now. I bought one of those "fix my hog" dvds off the internet, and that helped a bit along with all the how to's that Gas hasa posted. I have 10k coming up and they charge around 1200 for that service at my dealership. This pretty much covers everything that Gas has covered in his how-to's except lubing the throw-out bearing:)

ChuckRB05,

$1200 for a 10k service?

Other than changing the front and rear wheel bearing and the inspection and repacking of steering head, how the hell did they come up with that price.

I could see if they are also doing brakes, tires, etc, but those are not part of the normal 10k service and changed as needed during inspection. Is that $1200 for the 10K listed in the O & M?

Seems way out of line for the items listed.

Tell me about it. They say the service takes 15 hours. That comes out to around 85/hr or so. They do take the wheels and trees off...inspect and repack the bearings. I was told they inspect everything...to what extent...I don't know. I could do most of that service...I'm still a littler nervous about adjusting the pushrods...even after reading the tutorial.

Well I stand corrected. They have lowered the price down to 877.00 which includes everything I mentioned above.

Nearest Big Dog dealer is in Dallas 120 miles away. Had my 500 mile service done by a local independent shop by Harley/V-twin certified mechanics for $150 total cost. I asked them to use quality, non-synthetic fluids as recommended by Big Dog. They signed the maintenance log book and provided a receipt as proof of service.

f***** tOO MANY, THAT IS SO TRUE AS TO MY POLISHING IT EVERDAY AND VERY FUNNY.
I DOUBT IT'S THE BEST LOOKING WHEN YOU THINK OF SO MANY OTHER EXCELLENT EXAMPLES HERE IN DOG LAND. EX. GAS/SHREDDER/ALLHALL/AND WAY TOO MANY OTHERS, NOT TO MENTION YOURS.:2thumbs:

BigBlueDog,

If you didn't polish it every day, you might cut into Ray's mileage numbers. But knowing how you like to keep your Dog spotless, telling you to stop polishing it is like telling the sun not to rise every morning, which is why you always have the best looking dog on our rides.

100% of all service is done by myself!! Part of owning a Motorcycle Hot-Rod is knowing how to fix it and take care of it. The savings alone doing it yourself will pay for all the tools and a decent lift to boot!

Key word he said there " Motorcycle lift" To me it is the best tool I have purchased. And costs not much more than a good intake sytem or set off pipes.
