Looks like major surgery there Kel. Hope this helps with the kinks you’ve had to deal with lately.

So it's that time.. sending the heads off with the jugs and pistons and rocker boxes and all that.. just threw new push rods and lifters in it.. so by the time ahe is all done, it'll be as good as new. After speaking with @cdogg556 and @Th3InfamousI and @Marky-Marc , I've also decided to go with the 585 or 600 cam.. Excited!!

Keep us posted on the progress Kel, curious to see how it all turns out for ya! All I know is the 585 cam changed my bike completely! Best bang for my buck yet!

Andy happend to visit Naples while I had strange noise on my engine. He shipped my cylinders, heards, pistons.... to his shop in NY. Did the same magic to them as to his own engine a while ago ... Does not sound like potato potato!
I have mild 585 cam.
And for some reason I got rid of the backfire too! I kind of miss that though

585 is the cam to get. I had the 600 for a bit a long time ago and the 585 actually ran better (dyno proven). Plus the 600 requires 600 springs which adds to cost and netted me nothing.

I would get myself 4 pieces of 3/8 rubber hose and stick on the top or the studs just to keep from buggering up the threads and scratching up the other parts. and stick some rags in the rest of the openings. Last thing you want is a dirt dobber build a mud hut in there. Just suggestions from watching other mechanics work on my stuff:oldthumbsup:
Yep needs to cover those tappet holes...

Don't go with a 600 cam unless you shave the cylinders and your already past that point as you need to measure deck height.

Constructive criticism below:

And you should clean up that damn wiring mess under the tank surprised you haven't had issues there..haha

Clean and tidy is key! That tank will rub wires bare in no time.

I do like the inner tube, at the same time it makes me think how the moisture that eventually seeps there dries out and not just stay there and corrode the pins...
I kind of like my -03 setup...

Yep that 03 setup is sweet!!!

The bottom of the tube is open so it should still be able to dry out.

The JST connectors are supposedly waterproof according to the manufacturer so pin corrosion shouldn't be an issue. Grade 7 should be able to be submerged up to 1m of water

Did you measure the side to side play in the rocker arms?

Rocker Arm Endplay spec is 0.001"-0.012" per SS manual.

So I'm getting more likes on the 585.. I think I'll take everyone's word for it. :old2:
Yeah if I remember right it's better across the power band. The 600 is better at higher RPMs but I ride my bike between 2500-3500 or maybe 4000 most of the time. Winding it out doesn't do much more for you. Imagine a bell curve set on the RPM range from 1000-5000, a 585 has the meat of the curve between 2000 and 4500 or so where a 600 cam would have the curve from like 3200-redline. Not sure if that's exact at all, but hopefully you get the point.
