I'm going over the bike for my 5k service and I'm trying to remove the tappet oil screen to check it and I can't unscrew it.I've heard it takes a special tool,but there's always got to be a mechanic's "shortcut tool".:flag:

i take it your's has the screwdriver slot? if you have a large flat screwdriver socket for a ratchet, you could put more down-pressure on it and turn it gently with the ratchet. would probably work better than a screwdriver.

After you get it off, (you can gently tap it around with a chisel and hammer, just to brake it loose), replace it with an aftermarket allen head type, end of problem.

If it the slotted head, you can go to the tool store (Sears Craftmans used to be readily available-not so sure anymore but worth the check), and look for a Drag Link Socket, whihc is basically a big ass screw driver that goes on a 3/8 (though they used to have 1/2 drives also) drive socket.
It will work and also allow you to torque it to specs if you desire, though just tighten it cautiously will work.

I bought a large over sized flat blade screwdriver from autozone. It is about 20 inches long with a blade that fits the slot snugly enough not to strip it out. It also has a square block just below the handle to use a wrench with it if you need more torque. ERT products on here has better caps that use a 7/16 socket.
