Taking my dog for a walkabout

RETIRED
IMHO, the best trips I've ever taken were spur of the moment decisions. Back up the backpack with some hand tools, portable charger (cause ya never know), a few rags, a wet suite, a small safety kit (well I always carry one), couple bottles of water, a candy bar and gooooooo.. Drag a few friends with ya.. Priceless.

How far I go, who cares . Where I go, who cares. When I get back, well I gotta pay the bills (so sometime within the next month). How fast do I ride, let's just say I stretched the dog out yesterday at about 108 :whoop:but usually within 5 miles per hour of the posted speed limit, ya know just like Ker.. Good luck to bro.. and

Safe trails.. :chopper:
You must take your wife to handle the tools;)

Your right chubs I need to point my face in the wind.

I'm gonna ride until I get tired then I'm gonna rest until I'm done resting and I'm gonna ride straight til I feel like turning around. Might be a day might be a month. I won't know until I do.
Sounds great.... one thing I did not see mentioned were ear plugs. For me there is a noticeable difference when I wear mine. I can ride a lot farther without fatigue. Be safe!

Shoot, I never plan anything, just ride. Unless it's a long way , tools and clean undies. Old school I guess. Like that old saying; "Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself. "

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I'm old school. No radio, no ear plugs no helmet. I just like the sound of that V-twin humming along and the wind wistiin in my ears...

Keep us updated on your trip...If you have trouble along the way you can always get back on the forum and check to see if any members are near. Its happened before, and people were able to help and you might even get a free lunch out of the deal. I've met members as they drove through town.

Looking forward to retirement
The ear plugs and ear buds help in many ways. At 75mph the wind noise is about 85 DBS. That's enough to damage hearing over extended time. Like Eric said what I will make you is extremely comfortable! With the ear buds I build they do 3 things,
1. Cut out wind noise
2. When plugged into your smart phone, you can hear Google map give you directions so there is no need in heavy traffic to pull over and read a map.
3. Yes you can listen to your music and relax.
I will have all my equipment with me at BB&B so if you want ear plugs or ear buds I will be able to do both.

Just caught this thread, i do some serious mile on my K9. May years ago i purchased a tool roll for a HD, just basics but you can adjust and tighten shit. Now i also have a 8" adjustable wrench with a wide gap, spare fuses ( i have fuses) and cable ties.
As for gear, i travel lite. When i was in my 20's you had the clothes you stood up in and maybe a jacket to keep out the cold while riding and sleeping. Now i carry a bag with all sorts of stuff, too much really but i fill and put it on the rack i made i can rest my weary old back against it.
XTC.
Every one is all hunched over, where i am almost up right with very little load on my hands, wrists, arms and shoulders, i think nothing of doing over 600 mile on a good day. These are not freeway miles, bad secondary roads we call our national highway.

Take it one tank of fuel at a time. Watch your odometer and learn when you need fuel by watching the trip odometer. Until you have pressed through tank number three into number four, you simply cannot know that riding with numb ass is not as bad as it it might seem - then do it several times in a row. Your head will not clear until you have not been able to answer your f*in cel phone for at least two days. Then you will turn it off, save the battery, and check your messages at night and be happy. Check your routes through OK, NM, AZ, and CA and figure out when you MUST use the interstates and when you can do significant parts of the trip on US Hwys. More history, frequent fuel, real people, no Loves Truck Stops (you can go your whole life without hitting one of those on a bike).
