You really need to do some engine work to bump compression to take advantage of the 600's 55 degree intake closing. This is a bit late for the stock 9.6:1 compression ratio. The late closing allows more air and fuel to enter the engine at high rpms, but it comes at the expense of a loss of cylinder pressure. The result is a drop in low and mid range torque. The 585 has a 45 degree closing, which will produce more cylinder pressure. This will produce a higher torque curve.
From WSW website: "Note: This cam will reduce your lower end power band, on stock Big Dogs, due to the low, roughtly 9.6:1, compression ratio and the stock locked Ignition Module in the Big Dogs. To really get the most out of this cam WSW recommends raising your compression a minimum of half a point and installing the Thunderheart Programmable Ignition Module. If you want to get the most from your motor without doing major engine mods go with the 585 cam and the Thunderheart Programmable Ignition Module."
