Tach

Approaching 500mi on my 08 Ridge. When I start up, the perimiter christmas tree lights on the tach all blink on and off for a minute or so. Bike runs fine. Nothing in the handbook on this. Is this a reminder for the 500 mile inspection? Thanks Juice

If I remember right ... think I read it somewhere... that means your motor is lugging. If you rack the throttle and up the rpm's it should immediately stop. When you go in for your 500 mile have them check the idle ... it might have to be bumped up a couple 100 rpm.

I think its activated when less than 950 rpm

Kick my ass if correction is required:hi:

These guys are correct....

If the tach is flashing, the RPMs are not high enough.......get a Cruise Mate or use the throttle screw lock to keeps the revs up during warmup.....

If the tach flashes while you are underway, you are really lugging the engine and that is worse than over-revving.

How about just twisting in the IDLE adjust screw a 1/8 turn on the carb. EFI unfortunately has no manual Idle adjustment YET. My bike idles on the low side as well sometimes. Give me some time I'll make something. IAC adjuster?

Thanks to the DOG TROOPS for the replies!
Never lug the dog under load. Idle a bit low ...I'll crank up the S&S idle a bit.

I wouldn't increase the idle speed on the carb adjustment unless it idles too low when its warmed up

FYI if it's flashing your idling too low and the pump isn't pumping enough oil, so don't let it warm up like that. This 2005 I'm working on is a bitch because it lugs so bad when it's cold, but once warm it idles fine. Makes it tricky because if you just turn up the idle it ends up being too fast once it's warm. I personally never let the bike idle on the kickstand anyway, so it's not much of an issue for me.

Been down this road

Good further input Thanks

Had a hopped up fat boy with a Rivera extended intake manifold, and an S&S E. I Always adjusted my idle depending on how warm the oil/motor was. As we all know we want to get off the enrichener as soon a possable. Once fired I would get off the enrichiner and kick up the idle speed for 2-3 minutes. During this time Id be farten around doing something by the bike. I carried a small shirt pocket type screwdriver with a pocket clip with me when I rode that bike. As its warming and the revs went up I slowed the idle down. Worked like a charm. (make sure you dont turn the mixture screw!!) Deffinitly more then one idle speed for a hot and a cold motor.

Nice thing about the XXX carb is you can turn the idle screw by hand if needed. But try to keep it out hand is the best policy:roll:

Actually its easier and nicer to just get a cruise mate and use that for warm ups.
