Anybody having continuous problems with the tach? I installed all new wiring harness, upgraded ecu, etc, including a new speedo/tach about 8 months ago. ( a friends bike, 06 ridgeback) The tach, neutral light and high beam indicator all quit already. They all seem to be on that ring. I'm checking connectors under the tank but see no obvious reasons.

Welcome from Florida! Yeah my 04 ridgeback has glitches with the tach also. You can get a new tach ring from HDM. Markymark has a good YouTube video on changing it out if needed.

I really hate knocking BDM, but yes that Tach is not the most reliable part. I have gone through 3 of them. usually the high beam indicator and the actual tach go out on mine. The rest still work.
I agree cold solder joint! That's what mine was.

Check out the solder joints in these pics. Easy to get at and repair if needed. If you still have blinkers and oil pressure lights it would indicate Power and Ground at the tach ring are good and the most likely not the issue.

So, after installing the new tach ring, it worked for about 5 minutes. I already had the tank off checking everything and found this little problem. I made a little bypass wire on the broken pin which was the hot and the damn thing worked. I then went backwards and tested old tach ring, yes it was bad. Apparently all my wiggling and so forth broke this tiny pin. Been doin this crap for many years, it's happened before but pretty rare. Especially with a new harness. 
Only time I've had tach rings go bad was when I lost the PDM kit it took out the tach ring with it, and on the other bike when the wires plus failed it also took the tach ring.
Other than electrical units failing, never had a problem with the boards.
They are sensitive units, use them as a tool. if you see something acting up with the board you got an electrical issue somewhere and it's just a matter of tracking it down. Like this guy's broken JST. I had an issue with the starter cable on the battery would hit the battery tray on big bumps, it had worn the cable coating, and the tach would go out then back on when I hit bumps. Fixed that, fixed the tach issue.
