Tach lights don’t come on when key is turned

I have an 07 mastiff that I just put a new brail battery two days ago, last night I placed it on my battery tender and left it charge overnight. This morning when I started it up the tach light went crazy they were all flashing. I pressed the trip meter button on the tach and they stopped flashing.

The real issue I have now is that when I turn the key on I don’t get the usually tach lights to flash on and run up the tach like they normally do. Any thoughs on what might be the problem?

I think I read where the tach runs a self diagnostic test when the key is turned on. I would think that comes from the tach board. I'm sure these other Dog owners can help you more than I can. Does your tach work at all after you crank the bike?

Craig,
Give us some more diagnostic info here so we might try and help.
My first impression is that there is a bad wiring connection being made somewhere, but without more symptoms, it's had to say presently.

Could you possibly be seeing the tack lights flashing from the idle speed being to low at initial startup?

when you first started the bike your oil presure was to low that is why you're tach was flashing. Anytime your idle gets to low there is not enough oil presure all tach lights will flash.

I thought that if idle "speed" is less than 900 rpm the tach will flash. mine has done this when just starting up and I keep the rpm up until it maintains and doesn't want to stall

Ok, but he's gone now!:lol::lol:

When he returns :D

Craig,
If your speedo/tach. stopped it's set-up patterns after you pushed the trip reset button. Tach lights flash & speedo needle does a sweep. Check it for being stuck in the depressed position. That might interfere with it set up routine. Please let us know if this helps or not.

Good Luck, Dead

I have never seen a tach that the lights all came on with the key.

They shouldn't. The speedo should sweep and the tach lights won't come on until you start the bike.

As they stated above, 900 rpm or below and all the tach led's will flash on and off until you turn the idle up.

Turn your idle screw in just a touch until it is idling about 1000-1100 rpm and you should be normal (or at least your bike will be)!!!:D
