Tach and Speedo.....

My 3rd speedo just went up ,needle bouncing all over,odometer not displaying properly and tach not working at all....is there something inside not costly that can be replaced to fix this epidemic????I really dont want to shell out the cash for the Dakota Digital at this point,yet have to have my odometer......any help would be greatly appreciated......

Yes, the Dakota is just a speedo replacement. The tach is a seperate operation. I might have a blue Dakota available. If you get your tach issues resolved and want to go that way pm me.

Check you connectors and wires from the speedo back and be sure you have good connections especially under the tank. Since the tach is also involve that's why I think you may have a loose connection. Some tach boards would also allow water to settle at the bottom of the tach board and corrode the circuit board. Be sure to check the wires where they go into the connector. Over time they get loose and appear to be ok. Check you speedo sensor at the tranny and also check and clean the crank sensor by the oil filter. This is some things I would check and have found on my chopper and some other bikes. Hope you get it work out.

I had to have mine replaced, it was actually covered under the warrant through Big Dog, Further research was said that they have had that problem with there speedos very often.
