switched to Amsoil, now quieter

I waited 15000 miles to do it, but finally switched over to amsoil motorcycle oil (damned expensive stuff).

I can't say for sure if mileage has gone up, I went to 2 Bandidos Nationals and the average speed was 110 mph on the road. Mileage did suffer from the speed.

What I can say is that it has gotten quieter (seems like less top-end type noise).

Does anyone have amsoil in the transmission or other places?

Hope everyone has a good Red and Gold Day! SYLB

Since Wal Mart stopped carrying Mobil One full syn. 20W50, I switched to Amzoil full syn. 20W50 and now I think it's just GREAT!!! Just a few bucks more, and well worth it.

my bike also runs better on Amsoil than the Mobil 1. Equally as good is Spectro and that (for me at least) is a lot cheaper than Amsoil

Just put Amsoil in mine Sunday. get on the web site and become a preferred customer and get a bit of a discount....will pay up front but will get back in the discounts once you start ordering. i used the severe gear oil in the trans and helped the shifting in just a few minutes after my test ride...

I have been running it since I hit 5k I now have over 17k.
I run it in the trans too. the regular 20/50. I just pulled my trans dip stick and after a little over 2k on the oil it was so clean I couldn't tell it was on the stick.

I do think it makes the engine run quieter but it also improves oil pressure.
I was riding today in Phoenix at about 110 degrees and still had 25psi at idle

I change both trans and engine oil at 5k

I just did my own fluid change this past weekend too, I also used the Rogue Choppers Oil Scavenger.

I can't say enough good things about the Amsoil! During idle the bike now runs smooooth! I should've filmed that!

1qt 20-50 in the Primary
3qts 20-50 in the engine (have another quart if you use the Scavenger)
20oz Severe Gear 75W 90 in the Tranny

It's nice to see that the thread has remained positive.

I will pick up some of the severe gear 75w-90w tomorrow and change my primary to it as well.

Great thread RE but I would really consider using the 75-140 in your area during the summer. I put in the 75-90 this winter in my bike but we average 50 degrees here. I'll be replacing it with the 75-140 next week prior to leaving for Sturgis.

Did you see the other thread someone else started at the same time on how noisy the Amsoil made their bike! :D

I'm switching to Amsoil at my next service, but am curious about the Rogue Chopper Oil Scavenger....is it worth the money?...is it difficult to use?
It scares me to think that almost a quart of "old oil" gets left in the engine at typical oil changes! Wow...kinda defeats the purpose. :loony::rolleyes:
I want the best for my bike! Thanks for all feedback!

Amsoil..... unfortunately not for me here in TX!!! Made my Dog sound like I installed a quart of marbles once it got up to temp. However, it could have been related to me only having 1k miles on the bike. I contacted S&S and they recommended a good brand 50wt non-synthetic for TX heat, and suggested I wait till 5k to switch to synthetic in the engine. Drained the Amsoil and put in Valvoline VR racing 50wt dino oil and the marbles went away.

Also put the Amsoil 20-50 in the primary and the severe duty 75-110 in the trans and it performs well in those holes!!!! :2thumbs:

I am not knocking Amsoil and will try again at 5k because I do prefer synthetic, but it made me sick after i changed the oil and it sounded horrible.

Just my experience....

I just don't understand how so much old oil, can be left behind. I drain the oil tank, overnight, and I also drain the motor, via the bottom plug. It is a magnetic drain plug, and as far as I am concerned, made to be removed and drained. With the oil filter removed, the oil tank drained, the bottom motor plug removed; how much oil can be left in the motor????
