Suspension issue I think

Energy One
Hey everyone so my 03 mastiff has a 250 tire. I bought it with it on. I'm getting some pretty bad rubbing on both the inner bolts where the wire connect to tail lights... The screws have worn pretty bad into the tire.. This is a issue I just noticed.. My question is can I raise the suspension a little or should I get a 240 tire? Or is the suspension going out??? Thanks in advance!! And yes I did my intro!

I've had to replace the wires too not unheard of in the older ones since they just ran them under the fender. However bolts rubbing the tires is not good.

How many miles? Might just be time to replace the shocks.

New suspension!?!? Fml lol my wife is gonna kill me hahaha

Hmm...shouldn't have to replace them with only 5200 but it's possible the seals are just worn out so no fluid in the shock the bike is 13 years old.

If you sit on it does it feel soft ? Or can you bounce it ?

The shocks are not that expensive to replace.

Not to much bounce. What kind would you suggest?basically every time I hit a bump I think the tore hits the screws.. Is there a way to raise it? Dumb question ...

There should be 2 nuts at the end of the body on the shocks. Loosen the outer one and turn the inner one out.

Looking forward to retirement
I had the same problem. I put a new set of Progressive shocks on my 03 chopper and problem solved! Remove your fender and tire. VERY VERY carefully with a dremal tool cut the inside of your fender about 1/32" deep on the lay of your wiring. Now with a 3' section of new wire, lay the wire in the dremal rd groove and bondo it in place. Once it dries sand it down level as possible. Then reinstall fender and connect wiring using crimp on shrink tubes. Then put rear tire back on. Project can be done in 4-6 hrs. This is what I did back in 08. And 9 yrs later still no problem! I weigh 230 lb and once in a while the wife rides so I went with Progressive Heavy duty. If you weigh less go with regular Progressive shocks!

My stock shocks couldn't be adjusted so I too bought a set of Progressive shocks. The only way to go just don't buy the HD ones if you are under 200 lbs. To fix my wiring problem I moved the rear foot pegs down and then moved the tail lights to the upper peg mounts. that leaves only 6" of wire to the controller and not near the tire.

Don't know about the 03, but my 04 stock is a 240 tire. If I tried to squeeze in a 250, I think I would be rubbing everywhere. I know that it only adds 3/16 on either side of the tire, but I'm not that far off the belt now. And, I agree with Eric, I had to re-do the wires to my brake lights when I got the bike.

Problem and solution on my 03chopper. Thanks again for the whole crew in Fayetteville few years ago. Dave, Spitlog, Bearman, Dan.... I was busy drinking beer while guys fixed my bike. Good deal and great guys
No idea why the pic is that color, too much beer I suppose. Should have taken a leak before taking the pictures maybe
