Messing around in the garage and went to unplug a bottle of super glue and it shot a stream across my gas tank from about 10 ft away :bang: Wiped it off right away so it dried pretty fast. Anyone know how the heck to get this stuff off? Thanks!

I would get some very fine rubbing compound along with super soft micro fiber cloths. that shouldn't hurt your paint because of the clear coat

Use a cleaner called MEK. Methyl Ethyl Ketone.
just a sub-note. if you ever have the need to use MEK, make sure you are in a WELL ventilated place. not sure if it will do the same as denatured alcohol or not (soften the corneas of the eyes) but it is, non-the-less, BAD SHIT.

I use a lot of Superglue in my business, As long as you are not glueing 2 items together wait till fully dry then you can actualy chip it off with one of your fingernails ! Just saying.....

Acetone will soften and eat through the paint on the tank as well. I wouldn't recommend it's use. The tank would have been waxed well I would guess and there is plenty of clearcoat, so I would 2000 grit wet spot sand using a rubber block and polish out those areas.

Glad to hear you got it cleaned off. I can imagine the expression on your face!

while doing a repair on my center console dripped some on my tank .... used the wifes real fine grit emery board to take down the high spots... then brought the lustre back with rubbing compound.....

Thanks guys! Still have a few minor places to get out but nothing like when I started. I'm going to pick up some very fine rubbing compound and see if that will smooth out the rest. If not then to the 2000 grit I'll go.

Cringed when I read this post. Sounds just like something that would happen to me (and I am sure many others on here). Kinda makes your heart stop for a second when stuff like this happens, huh?

Careful on sanding superglue.

Make sure you use a hard backed sanding card. Since it is harder than the surrounding materials if you just use sandpaper in your hand you will sand around the glue more than glue itself.
