Suggestions on a Starter?

Well, after spending some time and money to check the wiring on my bike, I have found that my starter was indeed bad. Should have checked that first, huh? Ah, what a dumbass I am!! Anyway, I took the starter to a local shop that I trust and had it tested. It was crap! I need some suggestions on what brand I should invest in and how much money is necessary for a good starter. I have been given suggestions for Powermaster and about $380. I have found other starters, like Accumax for $220. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! :spank: :job:

that spyke starter will not work on "05 and later big dog's , the only starters that will work on '05 and later models have to come from big dog, the reason being is the shaft that comes out of the starter is different, '04 and earlier you can use any starter that will fit a late model softail, but '05 and later the starter has a gear on the end instead of a splined shaft and the only place to get it at this point and time is from Big Dog

Hey Ray,
That starter is for 04 and earlier dogs!:2thumbs:
Yep, should have pointed that out but figured he would tell by the yrs displayed on this particular link. Just wanted to inform him of the seller who sometimes has the 2.0/4 kw starters
Another guy that sometimes get the starters in is shovelheadkicker.

Sorry for the confusion,
Ray

Just so you guys know, that is shovelheadkicker...he has different ebay accounts that he sells parts from. I have bought several items from him and he has always been a pleasure to deal with. You might want to send him a message via ebay and see if he has what you need.

really appreciate the suggestions guys! I am happy that I might be able to back up and running without spending $400. Thanks again. hub:cheers:

tx, I haven't figured out how to do that on eBay. It tells me I can only correspond with him if I'm replying to a sale item.

He was on BDOG and I wanted to invite him here cause he doesn't know about us yet.

If you can can you email him and invite him here?

Thanks,
Ray

The name of his shop is McClouds Cycles in Wichita If I remember correctly...I do not have an email for him, but someone can ask him a question for a selling item when that question isn't about the selling item...so to speak. Bend the rules...don't break them...lol!

I sent him an email about my starter and told him that I heard about him from this forum and I gave him the website. Hopefully, he will join the website!

I bought an extra seat from him - great guy to work with. I tore one seat apart to make it different and had one for back-up.
I think his name might be Darren at:
