The issue of the bike just all of a sudden losing ALL power, then magically coming back to life is EXACTLY the issue I was having with my '05 Chopper. Be riding along, then would notice the tach doing some funny things, typically followed by the speedometer either maxing out, or just going to zero. Then, within a few seconds, TOTAL SHUTDOWN, as if someone came along and yanked the battery out of the bike. Would check all electrical connections, then after about 5 to 10 minutes of waiting, would try the key again, and presto! All was back to normal.
At first this was VERY intermittent, occurring maybe a couple times a year, and always when I was either stopped, or creeping along thru a parking lot. Then it got worse, and was happening about once a month, AND while cruising along at full speed. It was also the same 'ol story... pull to the side of the road... bike TOTALLY dead... wait about 10 minutes... and all was back to normal.
Not willing to throw a bunch of time and parts into it, and suspecting a thermal trip of some sort was occurring in the EHC, I ripped that damn thing out and replaced it with the Wire-Plus system. Since then, in about 3000 miles and several months, I've had NO ISSUES!!!
Good luck.
