Does anyone have one of those suction cup back-seat from BDM? It looks so convenient, but does it slide and will it mess up the paint? My dealer is quoting around $170-190....

Check ebay... but make sure you get the BDM one not the knock off ones. It is nice and I have never had any problems. Just be sure to keep the suction cups clean otherwise they will scratch the paint.

I use the "Phantom Pad" Brand name one since I changed out my seat. It is pretty comfy the wife says ($100). But if you have the stock seat the BDM one molds to it and is a bit thicker.

No scratches from the Phantom Pad, you just need to get the right size and shape because they make a few styles for different fenders. I tried three or four before I found one that fit my 300 fender good without rubbing the paint.

Sun it WILL mess up the paint and it WILL fly off if you forget to take it off when you dont have a passenger:bang: :bang: :bang:

"Little known fact".......I ordered a custom seat from BD for my 03 Chopper. It came with suction cups. Well my original seat didn't. It had a bracket and thumb screw to the rear fender. I called and they told me the seat no longer comes with the bracket, only suction cups. Do I just have a useless screw sticking out of the fender.....put the old thumb screw on to cover it up...????

After pocking around the bottom of the seat pan I found they just covered the inserts for the bracket with felt. I cut a small slit in the felt and installed the old bracket as original......WAL-La....suction cups plus hold-down bracket.

Just curious - how long do those suction cups last? Do you have to maintain them somehow so that they don't start cracking or getting brittle?

Mine'll last forever, 'cause I never use it anymore. The two-up seat is far better.

A more serious answer to your question - I don't see any signs of aging - looks like they used pretty good quality material for the suction cups.

I lost 2 of those lick and stick pads and a day of riding in the rain with a bag on the pad marked up my clear coat pretty dam good. So I would get the 2 up seat and forget the lick and stick.

I have the two up seat on mine. The suction cups do make marks on the fender. I don't mind as I like this seat and with the sissy bar, I can carry stuff and use a bungy.

If you want to protect your fender, try using a static cling clear cover over the fender. Then use the suction cups on to that. You won't get any slippage that way.

We use the suction seat on our 2007 mastiff, havent had any problems with it marking up the fender. It doesn't slide at all, and with the tall sissy bar. Very comfortable.
Have a great day Lolita

Watch the actual "licking" part of lick and stick. The acid in your saliva will eat the clear and paint. The best thing to do is clean the suction cups with alcohol. They will stick with no problem after that.

I have one of the BDM pillion pads and though it is off most of the time, the times it was on, had no problems. Make sure the cups are clean and dry. Best to do like Mario indicated and clean with alcohol. Any dirt in the cup or on the fender can cause it to scratch.

Also make sure the felt on the underside is clean with not debris in it. Some people have used clear film between in and the fender to give extra protection.

Oh when you remove it, make sure you pull the little tabs on the outside of the cups to break the suction loose. Best to keep it off when not in use or anticipated to be used while on the ride.

They're nice because you can show off your fender graphics when you don't have a passenger on there. But everyone's right the key is to keep everything clean each time you use it.
