Not a simple answer

It all depends on what you want in an RV spot. What you plan on doing at Sturgis. Time riding, Time Drinking, Time kicking back at the RV, Time spent at Sturgis or do you want out of the spot you pick.

If you want the best concert, loud bikes till 4 am, go all night time pick the Chip. If you want to enjoy the day out riding and checking out everytown within a 40 mile ride check out The Spur. Good Buddy of mine owns it and he always hooks BDB members up if they want.

There are a ton of Campgrounds and most open for a month then close. You been here before? What you looking for?

Sturgis is what you make it and depends how much money you are willing to get rid of for a great week of Motorcycles, babes and Beers. My gagage door will be open for any BDB members and the beer fridge will be stocked and the Jager is beside the frozen mugs. If I am at work please dont go in the house. The wife loves the double barrel side by side shotgun i got her

Hog Heaven is a quiet campground right at Sturgis. There are also some shaded areas for tenting. I think the motorhome parking with power is on grass in the open.

Will be my first trip. I'll be hauling a 40ft toy hauler. Would like full hook ups. I've looked into "sturgis Rv park" formally Rodney's. they want 850 for an 80ft site for 5 days from the 2nd to the 6th (no more 40fts available). Not concerned about the noise. Most places offer packages for the first weekend or the second. What's the best time or does it matter? That park is close to downtown but is gravel, which I have noticed at several parks on line. Not to concerned about that. I chose something close because I've heard bad stories about sitting in long lines to get in and out of town??

Checked out the spurs website. Looks nice. Like the grass better than gravel. Cheaper too.

Dave stays at a buddies place right by the Spur. If thats a ok distance give Matt or Tracey a call and check the rate and tell them Dakotabos (From New Mexico Now From South Dakota sent you and you are a member here at BDB)

Might knock a few bucks off, Hope it doesnt raise the rate

Matt and Tracey are good people.... I will hang out there on my days off

Thxs for all the info. I'll check them all out. Now I just have to get one of my buddies to commit to going. They always puss out at the last minute.

I too am going to try to make it out there. Yea yea, I know I'm a business, but I'm a person first. I would like some look at some babes, drink a sh*tload of beer and look at some cool bikes. AND the wife wont be able to come with.....so sad :(

Even if at a loss, Im pretty excited for the experience.

Looking forward to retirement
We are heading back in 2013 for our 11th Sturgis rally. In 2001, I did the Chip for my first time there. Concerts were great, bikes were loud and I got little sleep. In 2002 I took my new wife with me and again we stayed at the Chip. Different scene all together. My wife got groped while on the back of my Low Rider. She is a Black Belt in martal arts. She hopped off and beat the shit out of a drunk 23 yr old guy! Anyway, that year the people next to us were openly snorting white powder on a pic-nic table they set up between our motorhomes. Plus leaving needles and used surenges on the table. We have never been back to the Chip! In the evenings and afternoon's traffic on both trips from Sturgis to the Chip was an absolute nightmare! Bikes's overheating. The next year we stayed 17 miles to the west of Sturgis in a 12 month year round RV park. Chris's Camp Ground. To say this place is proffesionally run is a vast understatement! Great place, great people! quiet and comfortable!!!!!!! For those who want to go party in Sturgis and comeback to a nice quiet evening to rest, THIS IS YOUR PLACE!!!! The following year we sold our RV so since then we have rented 1 of 2 houses in Spearfish. We found them in Rally Rental and depending on if another couple is coming with us depends on which house we rent.

I say just drop in at dakotabos place with a long extention cord and some beer and youll be set. Its really all about what is most important to you to decide where to stay. That old Rodneys place is close and there is ways to get out and in on back roads but it will be the most congested but if your drinking in town its close enough to walk. Most of the people I know stay to the west of town out as far as custer state park. The rest stay south tward rapid city, Dakotabos and I are around piedmont and there is lots of camping at wolfcreek and the spur. The spur is a really cool place . No way would I stay at the chip or any place close to the throttle as that is as liferider said just nasty and disgusting. If you wont to ride, stay south or west so you can just get on your bikes and go. We have 20 acres at piedmont with a big house but have very limited hook ups outside for trailers. We just didnt get utilites ran like we wanted to , and they all may be full. Shamrock stays at the Koa which isnt far either and dakotabos id friends with them also. Pm me and well go have a beer .

Great concerts ,RV camping - you can get a spot out in the corner ,
Rode all day ,Great concerts every night. Didn't see any "problems".
Slept all night / Was reasonably quiet -I'm a light sleeper.
Learned the back roads real quick so no traffic problem.
I recomend it . Met some great people .
Didn't see anything nasty or disgusting.
And I did put Gray Pupon on my P chops there.
Was thinking about going again 2013. Have to see how the $ situation is .

Yep love the place handy to everything, bus running into town and back.
But we just rode everywhere, never had any hassles from the law.
Saw one guy drop his bike while his wife was getting on, he was carted away and his bike towed, so they are about.

Best of the bands usually, and if you are a people watcher like me you walk around smiling all day and nite.
