Im here in Box Elder, South Side down Radar Hill Road. We ride Tuesday from #10 Saloon (But this year it might be a pain in the tail to have a big ride if there is a Million people show up)
Caught an article on FB: Da'Bus is going to shuttle between Rapid City HD & Down Town Sturgis. Due to availability to park so many bikes in such a small town Da'Bus will be helping people get to & from Sturgis. Think how crowded it is on a regular year. I usually park in the parking lot behind !st Western Insurance off Main. $5 parking. but even that gets full towards the end of the week when everyone is there. So if your staying in Rapid City and you want to go party in Sturgis this actually may be your best bet! The other thing people do not get is the amount of bikes stolen during Sturgis!
Don't Be a Victim
Every year, motorcycles are stolen during the Rally. Expensive, custom, or show bikes are popular with thieves. An average of a quarter of a million dollars worth of motorcycles are stolen during each Rally.
Some efforts can be taken to lower the risk of your bike being stolen:
- Be aware of where you park. Avoid dark, poorly-lit areas. Pay attention to people standing around who seem to take particular interest in your bike.
- Do no leave leathers, cameras, souvenirs, etc. on your bike.
- Lock your motorcycle. Factory ignition switch locks are easily overcome by thieves. High-quality disc locks, wheel locks, and heavy cable or chain locks are recommended, in addition to factory-installed devices. Inexpensive locks are generally of poorer quality and are easily broken or cut.
SO: with 4X the amount of people means 4x the bike theft that turns $250,000.00 worth of bikes being stolen to $1,000,000.00 worth. Parking is going to be a bitch, people will have to park way way off making it even easier for the thieves to take what they want when they want & what they want! USE ALARMS GUYS!!!!!! The Xena caliper alarm is a great device, it is loud as hell and noise attracts attention!
