New 2010 Mastiff Owner here, Owners manual says Not to drain oil from the crankcase but from the oil tank when changing the oil. I need to change the oil soon and did a quick check on the oil ank and dont see a drain plug.
Here goes the stupid question? Whats the proper way to drain\change the oil?:bang:
I'll drink more beer in the meantime

The oil drain is on the left side of the oil tank underneath, I would recommend getting a oil scavenger because if you just drain the tank you leave over a pint of old oil in the engine. the scavenger is easy to use, I'm mechanically challenged and even I can do it.

There is a reusable filter with a chrome housing you can buy from one of the venders here, a lot of members here have one and recommend it also.

Thanks for the tips. some members have posted a scav kit isnt necessary as u can run the bike without the filter and just turn off once u see the new oil come out.?

Oh my friend that's going to be messy! A scavenger will control the old oil exiting while not having a hose connected the oil will spit out...

A cheap fix to eliminate the mess is to get a long funnel and run it from you filter to the drain pan. I use a zip tie to keep the funnel in place and start the bike at idle to let the oil drain. Or you can spend the $$$ and get a scavenger.

I have got the scavanger and the washable filter.

I used to start the bike let it idle till warm, then while on the side stand drain the oil from the tank, once the flow got to a trickle i would restart the bike and run it till the next lot came out to a trickle. Shut her down, placed the stand under the bike and jack it up till it was a comfortable height, then i would place the oil filter HD change plate behind the filter and change the filter, top with fresh slippery and go riding. Have used this methord for 30 years.
Now with the scavanger, i use one liter + of expensive oil more than required every change and the mess it makes is a pain it also take 3 time longer to do a change.
I am going to plug the centre hole and add another hose, maybe this will eliminate some of the mess.
The filter is excellent, can't fault it any way

Another cheap way I found was the last time I changed my oil I took some aluminum foil and just molded me a funnel around the filter housing to the drain pan. Cleanest oil change I have ever done.

Whether you use the scavenger or just a piece of cardboard (like I do), be sure to top off your oil tank with fresh oil before starting the engine to pump out the remaining oil. Then top it off again after you are finished flushing, and then again after you've started it with a new oil filter.
