Stopped to fill up with gas. Turned the key on, waited, hit the run button, short wait for the fuel pump, then hit the starter, and it kept cranking and cranking till it was dead. I tried hitting every button I could. Stop would not turn it off since it wasn't really running. I grabbed the key and turned it off and pulled it out, still cranking! Not sure what the hell is goin on. So here I sit at a gas station..
Can a starter stick like that? Posting from a phone so I can't search very well. If anyone has an idea I'm all ears. Not goin anywhere for a while...

Have you got any tools with you. Might need to take the end of the starter off(three little screws) and check the plunger to see if its getting stuck. Just my thoughts. I am sure someone will chime in and give a better opinon and I hope you get the dog up and running. I know what it feels like being stranded. I was down at the beach 6 hours from home.

You guys were exactly right. For what it's worth I'll post the resolution just for those that haven't had it happen, might help someone someday. We kind of figured it was something stuck in the starter, but didn't have the tools to get that end cap off. The bottom two are hard without a swivel socket. Got it loaded on a trailer and wasn't too far from Mitchell, SD. Got it up to Klockwerks in Mitchell, and a very helpful tech that works for drinks made by anheiser busch had just the tools. Once the cap was off he could see the plunger was stuck. He couldn't get it backed out so he put the bike in gear and just rocked it back n forth a bit and it kicked loose. Lubed that up a bit and all good to go in the starter.
Not sure if battery was shot or not, but we left it on the charger for a couple hours and couldn't get it above 11.8 volts. Ended up buying a new battery which doesn't bother me all that much.
Made it out to the Hills a little later than planned, but she still starts. Rode through Spearfish Canyon today and bunch of other places.
I definitely have to give kuddos to Klockswerks. Wasn't a hard fix, but would have struggled without them.
Later.
