Strangest tool to do a roadside repair.

What's the strangest tool/implement you've used on the road to get you Dog going?

I surprised some of my crew who with me aren't easily surpized.

They've seen me pull out jumper cables

They've seen me replace a primary belt road side when I turned one into cotton candy inside the primary (my BMC) I even already had a belt with me! 15 minutes to do that.

Others of my crew have seen me pull the tank and rewire part of the bike roadside (again not my dog).

But tonight I set a new level of "He didn't just do that did he" Yes I did "and it worked!"

After riding all day today (solo) then stopping at church, some of my boys decided to join me for diner at a local italian place. After a wonderful meal of Vodka Rigatoni for 2 of us and Meatloaf/.Eggplant Panni for the other guy. We relaxed and talked for quite a bit before finally getting up and heading out the door.

The Dog is in Neutral, I turn the key, it lights up and then I press the run button -- It starts flashing! Damn EHC. I just got the replacement on Friday from Jake but haven't gotten it installed yet.

Turn off the dog, try again - starts -- then starts flashing (and I know that means it can cut out when running and I don't need that at night).

Turn off the dog again -- Instant flashing now, repeat same result and I'm 15 miles from home and its almost 9PM.

My tools are home and what tool would help.

Are we ready for the "tool" that fixed my DOG tonight and get it running.

1/2 gallon of HOT WATER

Yes you read that right, 1/2 Gallon of Hot Water fixed an air cooled motorcycle. Anyone who's seen my EHC notes might recall its cold taking mine down, so I slowly poured the really hot water over the EHC casing and viola as they say turn the key, start her up and its good.

Drove home and got the Dog in the trailer -- I think we all know what I'm doing this week!

Jersey Big Mike; The "Hot Water" tool that you implemented to warm the EHC on your bike seems to "fly in the face" of almost all of the recommendations here on the "Forum". The collective view is that the sensitivity of our electricals precludes the intentional pouring of water, and specially the use of HOT water in this area. What an ingenious solution to your problem.

Well I tried to get the heat from the exhaust of one of the bikes to warm it up but my boys bike had short pipes and saddlebags in the way. At that point last night I knew it needed heat and I was already dead so there was nothing to loose -- worse case I'd of had to call triple a or one of my bros to tow me home.

Might need to call Ron Popeil and market that tool! :2thumbs:

Makes me think of Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High...

"Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it."
