Strange vibration

Yesterday I noticed that the bike would vibrate (more than usual that is) when I got down to a slow speed, say around 35 mph. It also seems to do it at around 15 mph. Was also doing it on the way to work today.

In trying to isolate it, I put it into neutral while doing about 20 mph, and it seemed smooth right up to when I came to a stop.

Is there something going on in the engine or tranny that could be causing this?

I know the primary is good as I just popped that apart last week to inspect things, and fill it with fluid. Clutch hub nut was good and tight, and the plates looked good. It ran great after doing that, so I doubt it's related.

If it matters, I just turned 83,000 miles.

Try checking:

1. Ignition cover to cylinder head mount bolts.
2. Ignition cover to upper mount L-bracket bolt.
3. L-bracket to upper frame mount bolt.
4. Motor mount bolts.
5. Trans mount bolts.
6. Tire balance.
7. Wheel bearings.
8. Bent rim.

I would re-check your primary chain. 5/8ths to 7/8ths

Thank you for the replies. I looked at the engine mount bolts, and found that the one main one that bolts the whole ignition cover to the frame was missing!

Funny how easy it is to think that something major has gone wrong with the bike, only to find out that a bolt backed out.

Congrats on the 83,000 .. Let's see that would 6 sets of shocks, 4 transmission, 8 exhaust brackets and 7 sets of fork tubes.

mine started a vibration after 10 k service, they said it was the new bushings in the frame that transfer it from the motor. ????? sounds funny to me! anybody?
