Strange occurance!?!

Maybe this is just coincidence but to troubleshoot you always go back to the last action. My bike was running just fine. Took it out yesterday a couple of times. After I bought the bike in Sept. I noticed the bolt holding the ignition cover onto the frame backbone was missing. I finally ordered a bolt put it in last night and went to start the bike today and it clicked and shut off. Made several attempts to start and nothing. The speedo lights will blink for a nano second when I turn the key then nothing? Coincidence or is there a reason the bolt was missing! O and the battery shows charged.
Any wisdom on this guys? :confused:

Yeah I would have to say with absolute certainty that it was a coincidence. The one has nothing to do with the other. Click click sounds like a bad/low battery. Just because it shows charged doesn't mean the battery can hold a load. My guess is the battery is bad. And always keep it on a battery tender while she is sleeping.

Sounds like your battery is giving up the ghost to me. Check your connections for tightness also. When you say the battery shows charged, is that with no load? What does it show with a load?

Pulled the battery and I will take it in tomorrow and get it tested.

Thanks everybody!:2thumbs::flag::2thumbs:

Jus cause it reads 12 volts doesn't mean its got any amps left. I have heard that the HD AGM battery is the best buy for the dollar. And keep it on one of those trickle chragers. Also it seems like a lot of the top mount bolts come loose due to the power of the engines.

My boat batterys are always a problem. They read good but clickity click.

while all this is well and good, am i mistaken in my thinking that the bolt you are talking about is the top motor mount bolt? that bolt has got to be there or it's gonna cause a lot more trouble for you in the long run. like a whole shitload of vibration and any problems vibration related.

To loophole a ground and question a load at the battery [it was just fine a second ago], I'll take a jumper cable from battery (-) post to the engine block for 200, Alex.

After church took the battery to be tested. It showed charged but under a load it failed both times. It was deader than the joke I posted a few days ago!

Thanks for all the input!

I just replaced my battery after 2 years and the new one didn't crank it as good as I thought it should, so I had both load tested and both tested to 800 amps. I cleaned the terminals with sand paper and it made a big difference. I prolly should have done this before I purchased a new one.

I just commented on a thread from Aug. posted by "green 10" I bought my bike from him on ebay in Sept. He said it's never had any issues and was in top shape. He posted electrical issues which ended in a new battery. So that means he just put the battery in before I bought the bike from him. Now it's bad again. I hope it's because he put a cheap battery in it to sell it and not due to a more serious issue. Wish I was aware of this forum and his post before I bought it.

ah, remembers this bolt,, tightened mine up a little took a lot of vibration out, was told to keep it tighten or it would do the disappearing act,, agress with check the battery Load, keeps battery especaially in cooler weather hooked up to the tender, check all those connections as well. The reality is these motors are hard on a battery,, and sometimes the batterys give up the ghost at an earlier stage of battery life. They do not push off well either,,,, takes away any of the cool factor of riding the dog.
