Stranded!! (Sort of)

Events leading up to current fault condition:

Brought my Ridgeback out of the garage for a quick run; battery was low so I trickle charged it for 1hr. Bike started and into town I went.

Shut the bike off in town and 3 hours later the battery wasn't strong enough to start again. No big deal, a friend brought me home and I put another battery on tricklecharge over night.

This morning I swap batteries and now I dont have any lights at the Dakota digital except for flashers. ALL EHC lights light up and never go off. Ignition module lights don't activate.

So far I have swapped battery
Disconnected all power and ground from the battery and touched them together hoping to reset the EHC (THANKS FOR THE TIP SHANNON!)

but still no start nor tachometer function

It may show a surface 12v but it's the pusher. And if it can't push. So with key on, volt meter set at 20v, meter leads on the battery posts, what is the voltage reading now? But before the key is turned, what is the static voltage?

Next is to watch the meter again, and did the volts drop when you hit the start button? For all I know, all the EHC lights are more or less saying is a, 'low battery'?

Low voltage has been the general consensus when I asked the tribunal. It just made me nervous that the Dakota digital wouldn't light up. I will update findings in 30 minutes

Battery voltage needs to be 12.8 volts. Also, unless I'm misunderstanding, your problem seemed to happen after you swapped out the battery. Maybe battery #2 was in worse shape than the original. Check the ground side to be sure your EHC is connected securely. Low voltage is one thing but with a bad ground all bets are off and crazy symptoms abound.
When you get it running make sure your VR is charging 13.5 to 14.5v. A VR failure usually goes undetected until hard to start symptoms arrive caused by low voltage from the battery not being charged properly while riding.

Ended up being 3 weak batteries. Even the third battery that I just bought that day wasn't strong enough to even light up the Dakota digital! I was finally able to charge the original battery on site and it was strong enough to start the bike and haul ass home! 20201222_161654.jpg

Great news!! Don't overlook checking your VR for proper operation. Needs 13.5 to 14.5 volts when reved up a little. Under voltage will not be adequate to charge your battery and Over voltage will fry your battery.
