Steel or Fiberglass Fender

Hello Big Dog Bikers
my question is regarding the 2003 pitbull. My friend Artie has an 03 pit with a steel fender and I have an 03 pit with a fiberglass fender. does one of us have an aftermarket fender or did BDM switch it up during the 2003 production run. If so which one is the earlier version?

Isn't there a way to look at the VIN numbers and get the production date?

My friends 04 chpper is glass & my 04 pit is steel. I think you're on the right track. There was probably a mid-year change.
