So you have a slam button you are using to start your bike?I have a 2006 Big Dog K9. Part of the time it will start fine and part of the time when I try and start it I can hear a single click. When I hear the single click I can push the button on the starter and it will start fine. Where should I start troubleshooting?
The single click is probably the compression releases . They come on for 1second at the same time the starter gets the voltage from the EHC to crank. When you push the slam button on the starter you are effectively doing the job of the EHC. Pull the green wire off the starter solenoid and read the voltage when you hit the start button. You should hear the click of the CR's and also see the voltage rise on the green wire to approx 12vdc. Your problem is obviously intermittent so do it a bunch of times to see the results.I have a 2006 Big Dog K9. Yes I do have a slam button on the starter. Hitting that works. So you have a slam button you are using to start your bike?
Thank you, I will be going through these steps. I have noticed the ground on the battery does not stay tight if I wiggle it and nothing I do keeps it tight. Ordered a new battery to eliminate that or the battery as the cause. The single click is probably the compression releases . There are several possible causes and when it's intermittent it makes it more difficult. Test first then start by making sure your battery is in good health (load Test) and you have clean and tight connections. Pull the connectors off your EHC and clean and replace the dielectric grease. Check the ground at the starter for clean and tight. The green wire itself could of had a bad connection . If all wires, connections and battery seem good but you still have the issue it's possible the EHC is the issue. If you bought the bike and it had the slam button on it your problem was probably already there. The slam button is a great work around for that problem and an EHC is expensive.
Awesomeness thank you! Gonna start with the battery, then starter and work my way up.
My TP 107 shakes my battery cables loose also. It’s a habit now to just remove the seat & check them every time before I ride. Carry a 10mm in my vest pocket.
