Starting

I have 2005 ridgeback never has it given me problems. Well with four other bikes I have not started this one in a while.

So I drained the gas and put fresh gas in,started up she cough,puffed and back fired. Only would run with the enriched knob pulled out and half ass.

When I start it now it runs like its not getting gas. Changed jets,carb and it's still the same. She goes for a few seconds then stops.any help would be appreciated.

sounds like you have something plugged up or stuck in the carb to me. Pull her back apart and investigate. Shoot carb cleaner in all passages and carefully blow passages with compressed air.

Ringo I did all that with extra s/s carbs I have. All the carbs act the same.so I went down and checked the lights at the EHC.when I power up the red power light comes on and no others. When I start it just the red light stays on.i don't get the yellow or green at all. Wondering if it is my crank sensor.

according to my 08' manual the power light is yellow. If the battery has been in it all this time you can try disconnecting it momentarily and letting things reset. That red light may indicate a fault found during memory check

Ringo, my mistake your right. I get no other light besides the fourth light which is the ignition light and it comes on and stays on growing red. No other light.

I wil check ingnition switch first.. Then what would you recommend?

Is you fuel turned on all the way. Take your petcock off and clean the screen. If it set for a while you could have some sort of vacuum leak if it only runs half ass with the enricher on. Spay some WD-40 on the Intake gaskets see if it runs any better. Check your air cleaner for oil could be choking up the carb. Just a few things to look at. Also what stlmikie said a new set of plugs might just do the trick. Let know what you find.

IM sure someone with experience will jump in here and give you help, but in the mean-time check for loose connections and such and continue to search the threads here for similar situations.

Carlos and Ringo many thanks...I have pulled the petcock and the screen is clean and removed the the bowl main jet nut ran fuel ..plenty.

What plugs are you running. Mine are fouled because of the enricher. Will try a new set in the am.

Sounds like it could maybe be your gas cap not allowing the tank to vent. Try loosening your fuel cap a bit and see if it doesn't die. Worth a try...

The simple things first.. Bought new plugs and presto running like a champ again.

Yea Ringo that's for sure. What screwed it up was the plugs were new. Just put another set of new ones in and she fired right up.

Goes to show new plugs are bad!
