Starting my hunt - few questions

Hey guys. I have pretty much decided on getting a Mastiff and have started looking for one. I'm looking for the following in a bike:

300mm rear tire
EFI preferably
One of the higher tier paint jobs

I found one up in Wisconsin that looks nice but before I jump on it I wanted to get some input.

What years did the Mastiff come with EFI?

If you have EFI and the power programmer can the bike be tuned so you dont lose as much low end power with the S&S 600 cam?

With proper maintenance, how long will the 117" last? Basically I dont want to buy a bike with 43k when the motors typically only last for 40k...

Thanks in advance.

With the 300mm requirement you're looking at 2007 or newer. The EFI will mean searching for the Bulldog instead of the Mastiff. Basically the same bike overall, but the Bulldog has a chin spoiler, inverted forks, different wheels, and diamond cut heads (chime in if I forgot something gang). Either way, you are about to buy a bike that you will love more than you know!

I think the mastiff started having the efi option in 08. The 117 doesn't have an expiration date. And there are a lot of big dogs for sale thru out the USA. Most members will probably take a look at a bike if it's in their neck of the woods. Welcome aboard and good luck in the hunt.

Avoid efi not the best do a search and you’ll see why

I believe the mastiff got EFI in 07, the K-9 got it in 08.

07 was the first year of the efi bikes and I believe the Buldog was the only model with that option in 07. in 08 they didn't make the Bulldog model and started offering efi in the other models.

I was trying to recall the conversation I had when I bought my first K-9 and I thought the Mastiff had it in 07 since that was the only other bdm model I was even remotely considering but I could easily be wrong.

Does anyone know where I can find a wiring schematic for an EFI mastiff or K9?

I'm wondering about installing a Microsquirt to control the EFI....

The EFI bikes use the S&S VFI controller. You have to use Pro Tune from S&S to tune it.

You can get EFI on Mastiffs. I would recommend it , don't agree with comments about avoiding it.

EFI is dominant in virtually all new vehicles for may good reasons.

The ONLY good reason at this point to avoid the BDM EFI would be cost and availability of the replacement S&S VFI controller for the Big Dogs.

You sir are technically correct -- the best kind of correct.
I located an old review of the 07 Big Dog line and as you stated, the BullDog was the only offering that year that had EFI.
I stand corrected.
