I have posted about this before , I had problems starting the bike it would stop turning after a few cranks but would eventually start now it turns over but it sounds like its straining and kills the battery in no time , the battery is good but should I take the starter out and have it tested or can I TEST IT SOMEHOW, THIS PROBLEMS GETTING OLD . I WOULD LIKE TO GET IT SOLVED?:spank:

I have a braille just bought it last year .

I just pulled the plugs out and it turns over like I never heard it before , awesome but what does this mean and what can I do about it please?

The bike has 22,000 on it , I bought the bike last year and the guy I bought it from said he replaced the starter was only a year old but who knows? lol

Im very curious to know why it turns over without the plugs in it, is that a good thing? or not?

I have this picture but its not very good.

it spinning over like a bat out a hell is what should happen under no load, so thats a good start( no pun intended)
you got to have a good battery so
have the battery tested to ensure its good

i Would Like To See An Image Of The StaRter
it May Spin Like A Bat Out Of Hell With The PluGs Out Because Its A 1.7Kw Or Smaller
When You Put The PluGs Back In The Starter HaS To Fight The Compression
Big EVOs Need A 1.8 Or Better

I have a 1.4 KW starter, a 310 CCA battery, and no comp release. Cranks just fine, no stumbles.
However, I experienced the same problem as Marc here, with a weak battery even though it was fully charged.

Test your battery and check for any loose wires first.

I noticed in the braille battery inside the port for the positive side inside you can see the threaded piece inside is loose and you can move them back and forth , I called braille and there going send me the warrant for so I can get another one.

It does turn a little better with a boost on it but not as freely as it does without the plugs after listening to you guys it sounds like the battery isn't up to par. I will see what happens when I get the new one

OK, Do you have compression releases? If not, the starter is doomed! These bikes even with a Heavy Duty Spykes starter will fail. I went through 4 starters in 6 years do to this problem. I have a 2003 Chopper with a 107 motor. I put the eletronic releases in 3 years ago and KNOCK on wood, Have been trouble free!!! If you have releases, make sure they are functioning correctly. If you don't have them check the top of your heads. The 107 in 2003 was tapped and plugged for releases but not installed. If its earlier you will have to have them drilled and tapped. Not a big deal. I drilled and tapped my evo heads on my Ultra Classic last yr. Did a stage 3 and ran the compression to 10.5-1. Wasn't even going to start down the road running this kind of compression on a stock HD starter with out the releases!!!!!

a bad battery/ bad connections will have you going down all kinds of rabbit holes so its the most logical starting point. You can move forward from there with the trouble shooting if required.

I put a friends battery in my bike when I got home from work and it turned over fine , shut it down and restarted it a few times and all seems well .

Braille said they would send me another battery and I hope that's all it was but time will tell but it seems fine now!
