Starter Wiring 2006 Chopper

Well I am new to the forum so, let's start with a little self-deprecation...dumbass...that would be me.

I had to change the starter on my 2006 Big Dog Chopper....took a pic of the wiring...never reviewed the pic...it was blurry. A few months has went by and I can't remember where the two large wires go.

Now to the point:
The red wire goes to positive battery terminal and the post on the starter that has the rubber boot on it with a jumper wire back to what I believe is the solenoid
WHERE DOES THE OTHER HEAVY GAGE WIRE GO TO?

Also, if anyone knows where I can download a service manual that would be awesome.

Hey Larry, welcome from Florida. The other heavy wire should be a ground from your battery to one of the mounting bolts of the starter.

I had a guy tell me that it went on the same terminal on the starter as the hot, then to a ground??? Sounded odd to me.

Do you know what the other 'threaded post' on the starter is for?

I have an 03 so not sure if the starter setup is the same. Follow the cable and see where it originates from. My starter has one threaded post and the other wire going to it is smaller for the starter solenoid and it is a push on spade connector.

The othe cable should come from the frame or the negative side of the battery. If that is the case do not put it on the same side as your other cable unless you plan on having "fireworks" in your garage.

Hey Larry, nice to have ya here at BDB, I agree with Gerald, my starter also has one large threaded bolt for the positive connection and a smaller one for the solenoid connection, the ground goes to the upper mounting bolt of the starter. Hey if ya do an intro so we can get to know ya better that would be great, you'll also get more responses to your questions if ya do.

Hi guys haven't been around much this weekend so sorry for the delayed responses. I will be in-n-out all day today.

Well my starter has three attach points.
I have attached a sketch of the starter, looking from the rear. I get that the spade plug for the solenoid goes on the flat plug. But does the positive cable go from the positive on the battery to #2 and the negative battery cable on #1????? If the negative cable goes to the frame, what in the hell is the #1 threaded stud for??

I have not tried it that way, trying to avoid 'frying' something

You got #2 right. Only that one wire from the starter armature field coil to the solenoid you have drawn already.

Your #1 lug will get the positive battery hot lead.

Your ground wire runs from the battery ground to the top right starter mounting bolt not shown in your nice diagram . The wire you will put the mounting bolt through the wire then through the starter to bolt onto primary. Just grounding the case itself.
