So there we were bar hopping like always this Firday and then when I hit my slam switch (manual push button on my starter) all I heard was a high pitched scream. Great! :whoop:

I knew it wasn't electrical, and the starter spun every time I hit it, but it wasn't engaging and starting the motor. :bang:

Soooooooooo, my Road King buddy and I went and got the truck. I drove the Road King and he road bitch. Dumb and dumber style. :spank: Sexy Time!, .. and we towed my Ridgeback back from downtown all the way with a rope on the side streets, since my dumb ass don't got a trailer. Nor have the space for one. Rope...not I great idea but, better than leaving it there... I think Big Dogs should come with free trailers. Really...

Doing some research on this site, it's most likely what I expected, the starter clutch. Awesome. And since this the 2nd time that I've had problems with my starter, I'm all kinda happy. The first time it went was during a date; That's when I had the manual slam button put in,... and the handlebar push button switch is outta the loop.

It's a great thing that I just bought a Road King Classic with 18"" aps yesterday, so I can ride without having to bring 40 lbs of tools with me in my roll bag. I don't want sell the bitch, since she's so hot, I just want to smack the fucking shit outta it, since it keeps leaving me jerking off on the side of the road all the time. I really lost count of how many times, and it's sooooo sad that its' just funny.

And with all that said, the rear cylinder botton liner gasket is leaking oil like a mofo. About 1/4 quart every 60 miles. So I just carried a quart in my small saddlebag all of last month. Now she's just going to piss all over the garage and going to get jealous of the new Road King. Grrrr.

hate to be the one to keep saying this, but it sounds like a weak battery not throwing in enough to engage. ??????????????

For a few years now something would slam very loudly when I would press the starter button. Well, in Daytona this past Sunday I got the final slam. Now I'm waiting on a friend to have a look at her. But from what I read above, it sounds like this may be my problem. God I hope so. This is a lot better than what I was thinking it might be.
Take care all.

Ever heard of push starting??? Get used to it with no compression releases. Pulling a cylinder off to replace a gasket isn't exactly a big job.

Nope the battery is strong and I always keep it on a tender. I can push the starter all day long and it spins like a banshee. I haven't the starter yet.

Yup, the slam button has always worked, dispite some failed starting with the "Clunk" sound. If I don't push the button hard enough it'll mis-start.

Ummm... I do have compression releases. And; taking a cylinder off a two cylinder engine is not a "small" job.

Push start dude, I did it for an entire summer a few years ago. Do it in 6th gear. Don't leave that rear cylinder leaking for long, because that really will leave you stranded at some point. It's not that big of a deal to change, an afternoon, a head/base gasket kit, an S&S manual, and a few beers. Get used to it, these things aren't like Harleys. You gotta work on them.

I would say it's pretty damn easy!!! You'll have to remove your tank, carb, coil/motormount, exhaust and pull the pushrods. Then after removing the rocker covers and rocker base it's just 4 bolts that hold both the heads and the cylinders together.

I did a "How To" on it and if I can do it then you can too.

I'd make sure after you get it fixed that you give it a proper warm-up before taking off. Evo motors are known to blow gaskets if you take off hard on a cold motor.

Hope you get it fixed soon

Yup, and I'll have all the right gaskets and every bolt will come out easy,...I won't have to wait for any parts to come in the mail, cause as soon as I see that a part or bolt is fucked I'll just click my heels and the Big Dog carrier flying monkey from Kanass is going to fly into my garage with OEM parts that I need.

I'll order the gasket set, then start after I get back from sea. I'm shipping out after Christmas, and got too much going on . I can't leave the engine in pieces in the garage, I'll lose shit.

Where's the best place to get OEM parts?
