starter upgrade or just rebuild old?

Pulled the starter on my 2004 Chopper and am looking for any information on this unit I can get. I've seen some of the guys talking about that they upgraded to a more powerful unit and others who just rebuilt. I'd like to know the maker of my starter and the ratings for it before I start looking around. Also if anyone has a good lead on a starter at a super price that would really be good. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I just had mine rebuilt last week for my 05, it was $100 locally. This thing was in real bad shape because of primary fluid in it. Turns the motor over like butter now. I think its goign to be cheaper to just rebuild rather than buy a new one.

thanks for the input guys, sounds like the general concensus favors rebuild, gotta say this unit turned it over just fine when it was new. Think I'll go with the rebuild.

Just make sure you get it rebuilt tight. It needs to be sealed up and bearings locked in place and we do all that here.

Just an update, two weeks ago I sent the starter in and they had it done in 2 days then I got to talk to the guys and they put my starter back in the test rig and wouldn't stop testing till they duplicated the problem I clued them into, accomplishing this they then had a hell of a time locating the replacement part, but succeeded and now my starter sounds and functions like brand new and I will proably recieve it on Monday. More than happy with the professionalism of this shop. Thanks guys will try to send you a video of the dog starting up.

Wildsteed works ran into a few snafu's, but prevailed and gave me a sound and solid starter that I am sure will last a long time. Even kicked in a couple of sissy bar clamps as a way of making right the extended time of repair. Thanks guys for bein standup men. 8Ball
