Please help!! Got an 09 K9 in the uk. Only done 380 miles, but its never run since i got it. Starter won't turn the engine over. Battery looks good, with green light on battery conditioner. The solenoid clicks in momentarily, then releases before engine cranks. I can turn engine over by hand in 6th gear using the front pulley, but the starter just doesn't want to turn, even with booster cables attached. The copper lead from solenoid to starter looks like its been hot, with the black rubber sheath broken up. I have tried to disassemble the starter, but the main body won't separate, and a little lug has fallen out of the side of the starter. Any advice/opinions welcome. Thank you guys!!!!

Hi, the same thing has just happened to me on my 2006 K9, the starter has been working fine and then all of the sudden: Clunk and that was it!! Tim.

Hi, I brought and imported my 2006 K9 from new when they first came out and after years of problems with electrics on it I dumped the original wiring and had it rewired minus the ever troubling EHC and since I have had no where near as many problems! Tim. (England)

Starter or the coil?

Great article and I just want to make sure before I start taking things apart.
I'm guessing a bad starter but I need a second opinion. I have a video if anyone wants to look it, I will have to email it to you.
It acts like the battery just doesn't have enough power to turner it all the way. It's a brand new battery.

Good morning folks. I have a 2004 Big Dog Chopper great bike but here lately minor issues. Bike stays on tender went to ride Saturday bike started fine went 3 miles to get gas had to jump bike rode all day no problem. Last stop to get gas had to jump would not start or build up enough to crank replaced battery still had to jump. Rode about 6 miles bike died like cut key off have not messed with it after disconnecting battery. Any help or ideas is appreciated. I know compensator is getting bad and kicking out so that's just one thing. Thanks a million in advance.

HMAN would you explain to me how to check a stator and would this cause the bike to just die like you cut the key off running down the road?

Shutdown could be a different things. Bad keyswitch, short somewhere, connection loose... start with ckn all connectors. Some under the tank too. Also check the inside of the headlamp bucket. The plastic connector sometimes melts down. Ceramic replacement is best. I know someone will chime in with things Ive missed but start with these.

I will check the stator 1st and then start searching for what caused the shut-off. The bike was jumped with the truck running and I knew better than this I hope I did not dry an ecm which I believe it would have not started f re on even jumping it. Would h a very fried the ecm immediately.

Well, the cut off could easily be simply out of juice. Since you had to jump after that last stop. You got enough power to spin the bike up.
The bike was then running on whatever was left in the battery. If the battery was low enough at some point it will be not enough for the computer and then it stops running.
Check the stator and VR first, check battery and all connections for tight.
battery at rest fully charged should be 12.8v, charging (running) 14.4v max might need to up rpm to 2K or over.

Could have blown the fuse or popped circuit breaker between charger and battery (if it has those)...either way good to check.
