starter stays engaged

searched the threads and no luck. :down:anyone ever have their starter stay engaged after start-up? done it to me twice now. turn off the ride and try again and its fine. like i said this old dog was in to many dog fights.

If your starter staying engaged it would be one of two things...

1. The little green wire going to the starter is staying hot telling the starter to run, or..

2. The large set of contacts in the starter solenoid are a bit pitted and occasionally welding themselves together when they meet.

I'd check both of those before I'd stretch the spring in solenoid since doing that can have consequences of its own and at best is a temporary fix.

Thanks guys for the input. am going to go through the bike this weekend, fluids, torque, etc. will check the starter at that time. have another little question if you see my reply. at the back of the top tree plate, ther is a place for a set screw. dont seem to be one there. is at the bottom. have a set screw that will fit but was pondering if it was neccessary.
