starter solenoid

02 pitbull wont start. good 12 volts to solenoid quick connect terminal. no crank. cleaned copper disc on plunger and large contacts. push plunger in by hand and good cranking. inside the solenoid there are 2 small bare wires coming from the small quick connect terminal these go into the small hole in the solenoid, but one of them is broken close to the junction with the quick connect. could this be the problem?. also , how exactly does the solenoid come apart from the starter. any help appreciated.

Yes that would be it. Mine did it a couple times. just soldier them back together. Also check to see if the solenoid is loose inside of the housing. Mine got so bad I had to replace the solenoid. But soldier the wires will fix it.

Mr. Wright, You da man! I thought that might be the problem, but I couldn't figure out why there were 2 wires to trigger the coil. Was a bit of a job getting in there to solder the wires, but I managed to get it done. I owe you big time! joining this was the best thing I've done in a long time. Again, thank you.

clicking at the relay or at the solenoid? is there a strong 12 volts at the solenoid trigger wire, green 14 guage wire I think.? pop the end plate off the solenoid and check the contacts and visible wires, everything look clean and intact? If all these are good then you will have to ask someone in a higher pay grade. p.s. careful inside the solenoid if you didn't disconnect the battery, you can get some nasty arcs in there. Good luck
