Starter relay circuit question..

Hey guys on my 01 boxer I have been having nothing but problems outta my starter and particularly with the solenoid...

When diagnosing the problem I would always first check to see if I was getting a 12v signal to the solenoid with a press of the button which I do... But what I am not sure about being right about it is that it is getting a constant 8v at the signal wire with the key on not hitting the start button... Is this normal ??

No this is not normal. you should have zero volts from there to the negative side of the battery without the start button pushed. sounds like your start relay may be bad.

Insert title here...
0VDC with key OFF, 8VDC with key ON, and 12VDC after pushing the START button is correct.

Thanks guys ... Found out what was causing all my starter solenoid problems... Turns out the damn plunger in the Terry's solenoid rebuild kit was slightly different from the ole spyke design.. New tighter wound spring and old plunger and she fires right on up with the push of a button..
