i have 2003 chopper. the start button on the controls does not work. i have the plunger button on the solenoid to use and the bike cranks and starts fine. when i push the start button i have battery voltage to the green wire at the starter. i have had this problem since last summer and have just dealt with it but now i want to fix it before summer comes. i dont think it is a battery problem since i went half of last summer with this problem and my bike alwys started and i didnt start using a tender until i bought one about a month ago. all advice on what to check is appreciated. thanks

I have this same problem and have done the following
1. rebuilt solenoid
2. new relay
3. new battery
4. new start module
5. push start button
then another member suggested that it was a wire in the
starter, that caused him the same problems.
I'm not ready to buy a new starter so I just use the push button start
good luck and if you come up with something different that works
let me know......thanks

i was wondering what kind of starter you have. is it the factory spyke starter? you said you rebuilt your solenoid, how and what did you do? mine was not rebuildable on my factory spyke starter. did your starter work when bench tested.
if you remove the cover off the end of you solenoid you will see two little wires that are soldered to the post thet the small green solenoid wire connects to on the outside. make sure they are both attached, they are small and kinda cheesy and break from vibration. i fixed mine but was not my problem. what i believe was my problem was is that those same little wires broke back inside the solenoid. i didnt try to disassemble to verify. but after we changed the solenoid off of another starter that had a bad drive with a good solenoid my starter worked when bench tested and after install. got the parts for free from my local bdm dealer for nothing, he even did all the swapping on the two. i would assume that you have the same issue if you have changed what you said and everything on the bike is good. so new starter/solenoid and i bet you problm would be solved.

If you are hearing a click under the gas tank, it is most likely the starter relay board. It plugs in the bottom of the EHC under the tank. You can use a harley one, not costly.
Do a search on here for starter relay, some good info.

that is where the click i was hearing was comeing from, but i thought that relay was just for the headlight on these(turns headlight off when start button is pushed). the starter relay was the one on the battery.

You are correct, in 2003 they moved the starer module to the battery area and it is not under the tank, my mistake.
If you don't have a service manual PM me your e-mail address and I will send you the service manual instructions for the starter section for 2003.
