I Can"t get my pinion gear to line up with ring gear. when pulled out it is barely behind (toward back of bike) the ring gear. How can I move it forword to catch the ring gear? Any tip would be much appreciated and oh yea its a 2010 k9.
Thanks or Thanks anyway.

Th3 says the dowel pin is one float. Don't know if it's more than one pin, but if the bolts are hidden by the starter ring and clutch outer it's attached to, say it's not the pin float. But I'm more with Rott...

What I usually do if it's hanging up more or less, and I doubt your hand is giving the full throw? That might turn the motor, not sure, but no battery connected when messing with the starter motor. Anyway, what works for me is a hand tight, but kind of soft to lockable, meaning, because I'm going to stab the start button so the shaft coming out against the starter ring gear, is to let the motor float so it lines itself up at full throw. Pinch the bolts down where it's tight enough to move/not move, get it? Then stab the start button again and see if the lineup did not shift. Tighten to spec and one last time at the button.
