I just put my bike back together after getting my starter rebuilt, when i tried to start it all it did was spin the starter but it didnt turn my bike over. so i took my primary cover off and saw that my jackshaft bolt came out. so i put it back in and with my primary cover off i hit the starter button again and once again it just spun the jackshaft bolt right back out... whats going on? i tightened it pretty tight. dont understand why they designed it that the starter spins the opposite direction that the bolt threads in. it keeps unscrewing itself

I read somewhere that my jackshaft maybe stripped just enough to let me tighten the bolt but not hold up to any pressure..or there is something binding up causing the bolt to loosen itself...any thoughts? i could replace the starter jackshaft...its only 65 bucks and that would eliminate one possiblity

Was the starter replaced or rebuild of the original starter. The reason I ask is cause up to 04 BD used 5 different starter companies and there were 3 different bolt sizes. This bit Curtis and I in the ass once till we figured it out.
There was 5/16, 1/4 and 5/32 or something like that jackshaft bolts. So I would ensure you have the proper bolt size for the jackshaft. Just a thought.

i just made an appointment with a local shop..but they cant get my bike in until 5 weeks from now...ugh they said there arent to many things that could make it do what its doing. Either my starter's jackshaft is stripped, the bolt is stripped; my starter is spinning the wrong way, or something is binding up when i try to start my bike.
