Starter problem

Tried to start the k9 today and it cranked about 2 turns and the motor quit spinning but the starter kept going. I tried to start again and starter spins but doesn't engage the engine... I can feel starter clunking like its trying to engage but nothings there. any thoughts?

Could be a few things.
1. Make sure the starter isn't loose
2. Make sure the battery has full charge
3. pull the cap off the back of the solenoid, clean the plunger and copper contacts
If you all good to this point
pull the cover off you primary and make sure the clutch hasn't come loose

Sounds like a broken intermediate shaft
Pull the starter
If the pinion gear is gone off the end of it then you
You'll have to pull your primary cover and retrieve the pinion assembly

Starter Rebuild
OR
intermediate shaft
if you just want to replace the shaft
