Starter Leak ??

Hey Guy's,

I noticed on my 08 Mastiff that there is drop of oil that accumulates on the bottom of the starter.

I bought the shop manual for the heck of it and it says the starter must be replaced.

Anyone else ever hear of this problem?

Possibly a starter seal. If its under warranty, I'd take it in and let the dealer fix ya up.

Hey Ghost4,
I had the same problem on my 07 Mastiff. Big Dog ended up replacing the starter after it vibrated off and grounded to the frame and caught the bike on fire. We did a 350 mile run when the starter fell off. After new starter was replaced no problem. Tell them U want a new starter.

just went thru this as DV can tell you. the first starter they put on leaked bad. they replaced it again, no questions and so far it seems good to go. Is your starter banging hard when the bike is hot? That is also an issue these bikes have. mine did. my new starter is just now doing the same thing again only when hot. When it's cold no problem. I'm thinking of taking it back again but the repair shop is a long way from me so I'm holding out on that a little for right now. I have 15,645 miles on my bike.

ghost4, this is a very commen problem with the dogs!! There are several post on this subject! My 06 chopper had four starters put on it, before they got it to stop! My buddies 07 K-9 has had two put in it!!! DBM has been very supportive of the issue!!
